Fantasy Football Week 11 Running Back Rankings

1. Frank Gore (SF) – He should be in for a huge week 11 against a horrible St. Louis run defense. The Rams have given up more rushing TD’s (15) than any other defense in the NFL and they rank 30th in the league allowing 161 ground yards per game. Gore is nursing a neck injury, but he should be good to go on Sunday. Check injury report: neck

2. Brian Westbrook (PHI) – While he has struggled over the last couple of weeks, Westbrook should rebound nicely with an excellent week 11 match up against the Bengals. The Cincinnati run defense ranks 25th in the NFL while giving up 12 rushing TD’s on the season. Westbrook should also prove effective in the Eagles passing game. He is still nursing some nagging injuries, but he will not need to be 100% to run over and around this defense. Check injury report: knee

3. Michael Turner (ATL) – He has yet another favorable match up in week 11 against a very porous Denver run defense. The Broncos give up 146 rushing yards per game and have allowed 11 TD’s via the ground game in 9 games. Turner should have a great game. Check injury report: hand

4. Adrian Peterson (MIN) – After his 4th consecutive 100 plus yard effort in week 10, Peterson is now the NFL’s leading rusher with 1015 ground yards. While he is virtually match up proof at this point, Peterson will have his work cut out for him against a stingy Tampa Bay run defense in week 11. The Bucs give up just under 100 rushing yards per game, but more importantly, they have only allowed 1 rushing TD all season. In spite of the difficult match up, Peterson is on a roll and an obvious must start.

5. Matt Forte (CHI) – As far as fantasy football is concerned, Forte’s new nickname should be Mr. Consistency. He continues to put up solid numbers week in and week out and he does it a little differently every game. Forte should be in for yet another strong fantasy effort in week 11 against the Packers 28th ranked run defense. Green Bay gives up 155 rushing yards and 1 rushing TD per game on average.

Fantasy Football Week 10 RB Rankings

1. LaDainian Tomlinson (SD) – It was vintage L.T. in week 8 against the Saints as he totaled 170 yards and a TD. For the first time all season, Tomlinson looked like an elite fantasy RB. He was able to make his traditional breathtaking cuts and his speed appeared to be back. In addition, the week 9 bye should have helped further aid in the healing process of the turf toe that has limited him all season. He is not listed on the injury report and we are expecting a monster week 10 for Tomlinson against the worst run defense in the NFL. The Chiefs are giving up an average of 182 rushing yards per game to go along with 13 TD’s allowed on the ground in 8 games. This should be his week.

2. Adrian Peterson (MIN) –In his last 3 games, Peterson is averaging 124 rushing yards and a TD per game. He should continue the trend in week 10 with a favorable match up against Green Bay. The Packers run defense is among the worst in the NFL giving up 146 ground yards per game. In week 1, Peterson rushed for 103 yards and a score against them. He should be better this time around. As usual, A.P. is a must start fantasy option.

3. Brian Westbrook (PHI) – Surprisingly, he was held in check in week 9 by a horrible Seahawks defense that focused all of their attention on stopping him. Despite a difficult week 10 match up against the Giants 7th ranked run defense, we expect Westbrook to rebound nicely. He has scored at least 1 TD in each of his last 4 contests (1 playoff game) against the G-Men with 5 total TD’s, while averaging 142 total yards per game during that stretch. If history is on his side, Westbrook should be fine. Check injury report: knee

4. Frank Gore (SF) – While Gore’s week 10 match up against a solid Cardinals run defense isn’t ideal, history says that he will have a big day. He has at least 1 TD against Arizona in 5 consecutive games with 8 total TD’s during that stretch. Gore is also averaging 139 total yards per game against the Cards in his last 5 and totaled 151 yards with a TD against them back in week 1 of this season. He is a must start regardless, but his track record against Arizona doesn’t hurt matters.

5. Michael Turner (ATL) – The match up RB lived up to his billing again in week 9 rushing for 139 yards against a weak Oakland run defense. The bad news is that Turner failed to find the end zone for the third straight game now. While this means he is probably due to hit pay dirt in week 10, it won’t be particularly easy against a Saints run defense that has allowed only 4 rushing TD’s all season. The good news is that the New Orleans run defense is fairly mediocre over all which bodes well for Turner’s rushing numbers. Turner should have a good game against this defense as they have struggled lately, but keep in mind that they were able to shut down Adrian Peterson back in week 5.

1. Frank Gore
(SF) – He should be in for a huge week 11 against a horrible St.

6. DeAngelo Williams (CAR) – In his last 2 games, Williams has rushed for an impressive 248 yards and 2 TD’s. He will look to carry that momentum into a favorable week 11 match up against a terrible Detroit run defense. The Lions rank second to last in the NFL giving up 161 rushing yards per game. They also rank near the bottom in rushing TD’s allowed with 14. Williams will probably give up a few more carries to a healthier Jonathan Stewart this week, but there should be plenty to go around with this match up.

7. Chris Johnson (TEN) – The rookie star was basically shut down in week 10 against a very good and aggressive Bears defense, but we expect him to rebound nicely in week 11. He will face a struggling Jacksonville run defense that has fallen to 20th in the NFL in rushing yards allowed. The Jaguars will also be without their best defensive lineman in DT John Henderson this week which should allow for a little extra running room for Johnson. He totaled 127 yards and a TD against Jacksonville in his first career start back in week 1, so it would be a surprise if he didn’t fare even better this time around.

8. Steve Slaton (HOU) – He was basically given week 10 off as the rookie ball carrier was in need of a break. Slaton will return in week 11 well rested and ready to face the porous Indianapolis run defense. The Colts rank just 24th in the NFL against the run while allowing 12 rushing TD’s in 9 games. Slaton’s best fantasy performance of the season came against this same Colts defense back in week 5 when he ran for 93 yards and 2 TD’s on 16 carries. The Houston coaching staff is planning on cutting his carries back a bit for the stretch run, but Slaton should still see in the neighborhood of 15 to 20 touches, which should be sufficient to put up some great numbers against Indy.

9. Ronnie Brown (MIA) – He has been struggling with regard to rushing yards lately, but Brown continues to find his way to the end zone almost weekly, and you have to like his chances for a better all around game this week against Oakland. The Raiders are giving up 158 rushing yards per game and have allowed 13 TD’s on the ground this season. Ricky Williams will challenge Brown for touches, but Brown has more potential with this match up.

10. Marshawn Lynch (BUF) – Lynch has certainly struggled in recent weeks, but in his defense, he hasn’t exactly had the best of match ups. He will have a great one in week 11 against Cleveland. The Browns rank 26th in the NFL against the run giving up 145 yards per game. In addition, they have allowed 10 rushing TD’s in 9 games. If he can’t do some damage with this match up, then something is wrong.

11. Tim Hightower (ARI) – While he was unable to back up a big week 9 performance in week 10, we still like Hightower’s chances against a pretty bad Seattle run defense. The Seahawks rank 22nd against the run and this game should not turn into the shoot out type that limited Hightower so much last week. He is a fairly solid fantasy play.

12. Joseph Addai (IND) – He hasn’t been very good since returning from a hamstring injury, but there aren’t many RB’s that get the best of the Patriots and Steelers. That said, we like Addai’s chances to finally get on track with a nice home match up against the Texans. Houston is giving up 134 rushing yards per game in addition to allowing 14 rushing TD’s on the season. In a week 5 meeting with Houston, Addai rushed for 71 yards and a score. This should prove to be a good week to have him in your line up.

13. Brandon Jacobs (NYG) – It will be a clash of the Titans when Jacobs takes on the Ravens top ranked run defense at home on Sunday. While Baltimore’s run defense is head and shoulders above the rest of the league only allowing 65 yards per game and giving up just 1 rushing TD all season, Jacobs is the one guy that can break them. He will definitely have a tough row to hoe, but Jacobs is coming off of back to back 100 plus yard games and has at least 1 TD in 6 of his last 7 games. Limit your expectations because of the harsh match up, but Jacobs can not be benched against anyone.

14. Jamal Lewis (CLE) – You probably shouldn’t expect J-Lew to run all over the Bills in week 11, but he should put up decent to solid numbers. The Buffalo run defense can best be described as middle of the road allowing 104 yards per game. The key stat, however, is that the Bills have given up 11 rushing TD’s in 9 games, so you have to like his chances of finding pay dirt on Monday night.

15. Marion Barber (DAL) – While there is no question that Barber is an elite RB, you have to question his shaky track record against the Redskins. In his last 5 games against Washington, Barber has only rushed for 1 TD and 147 yards combined (29 rushing yards per game). The Redskins currently rank 5th against the run and Barber is definitely going to have his work cut out for him if he plans on having success. On a positive note, Barber should be heavily involved in the Cowboys game plan as the coaches blamed their week 4 loss to the Redskins in part to not getting Barber enough touches. He is talented enough to get it done, but the deck is stacked against him in week 11.

16. Deuce McAllister (NO) – Now that Reggie Bush has been put back on the shelf for at least one more week, McAllister will have the best match up in football all to himself. Well, mostly to himself, Aaron Stecker and Pierre Thomas might steal a carry here and there, but never the less, McAllister will be the go to guy. He will face a Kansas City run defense that ranks dead last in the NFL giving up a ridiculous 172 yards per game. They have also allowed 14 rushing TD’s in 9 games. Our only concern is if this game turns into a shootout or if the Saints fall behind, they will probably rely strictly on the passing game as they did last week against Atlanta which will limit McAllister’s chances to run all over this horrible defense. That said, the potential reward far outweighs the risk.

17. Willie Parker (PIT) – In spite of a shoulder injury, Parker is expected to play this week against San Diego. The match up against the Chargers 12th ranked run defense isn’t great, but it is certainly manageable for a player of Parker’s talents. There is some risk involved with starting him with a fragile shoulder, and Mewelde Moore will probably remain involved in the Steelers running game to some extent, but Parker is still a decent fantasy play for week 11.

18. LaDainian Tomlinson (SD) – Just as it was starting to look like he was turning the corner on a mediocre season, Tomlinson goes out and botches the best match up in football last week against the Chiefs. At this point is hard to know what to expect from Tomlinson. That said, you probably should not expect much from him this week with a brutal match up against the Steelers 2nd ranked run defense. Tomlinson is capable of playing well against anyone and he should do well in PPR leagues, but you wouldn’t be out of line going with a safer option given the difficulty of the match up.

19. Larry Johnson (KC) – While Johnson’s week 11 match up is somewhat favorable and he is returning to an offense that is actually playing well, he is still a risky fantasy play. Johnson has not played in a game since week 5, so he will definitely be rusty, and he may not even get a full compliment of carries. He will face a Saints run defense that ranks just 19th, but they are not as bad as advertised giving up just 5 rushing TD’s all season.

20. LenDale White (TEN) – Despite being limited to just 14 yards rushing in week 10, White still managed to score his NFL leading 11th rushing TD. In week 11, he will face a struggling 20th ranked Jacksonville run defense that will be without their best run stopper in DT John Henderson. White doesn’t get enough carries to put up huge yardage totals on a regular basis, so he is limited there, but you have to love his chances of finding pay dirt at least once with this match up. He rushed for 40 yards and a TD against the Jaguars back in week 1. Similar totals can be expected in week 11, give or take a few yards.

21. Ryan Grant (GB) – After posting an impressive 75 rushing yards and a TD last week against Minnesota’s 3rd ranked run defense, you have to like Grant’s fantasy potential moving forward. That is with the exception of this week against a Bears run defense that completely shut down the thunder and lightning combo of Chris Johnson and LenDale White last week. While Chicago will likely be a little more forgiving with Grant because of the Packers potent passing attack, he will still have his work cut out for him against the Bears 4th ranked run defense.

22. Willis McGahee (BAL) – In the ever changing realm of the Ravens backfield, it is difficult to know what to expect from McGahee, but for now, he appears to have retained the feature role. Barring further injury, McGahee secured that role with a monster week 10 performance against Houston. Unfortunately, yards and TD’s won’t be so easy to come by in week 11 against the Giants 7th ranked run defense.

23. LaDell Betts (WAS) – There is still a chance that the injured Clinton Portis could get the start this week, but it seems highly unlikely considering he didn’t even take one snap in practice this week. This should open the door for the ever capable LaDell Betts to fill in for him. Betts will be a bit rusty coming off of a knee injury himself, but he could be useful against a middle of the road Cowboys run defense that has been torched at various times this season. In 2006, Betts did extremely well filling in for Portis rushing for 1,154 yards and 5 TD’s in 9 starts. Monitor the situation closely if you plan on using Betts as Portis could try to play. Check injury report: knee

24. Maurice Jones-Drew (JAX) – You have to love the 3 TD performance he had in week 10 against Detroit, but you might as well forget about a repeat performance in week 11 against the Titans. Tennessee boasts one of the best run defenses in the NFL and they limited Jones-Drew to just 13 total yards back in week 1. We have no doubt that he will be better against them this time around, but that isn’t saying much, and Jones-Drew is not a safe fantasy play for week 11.

25. Ricky Williams (MIA) – Williams finally got his turn to run wild in week 10 rushing for 105 yards and a TD. If given ample opportunity, a repeat performance against Oakland in week 11 is not improbable. The Raiders are giving up 158 rushing yards per game and have allowed 13 TD’s on the ground this season. Williams is a risky fantasy option based on his inconsistent play this season and the fact that he shares carries with Ronnie Brown, but if you are looking for a capable RB2 with a great match up, he could be worth a shot.

26. Julius Jones (SEA) – After falling off of the fantasy radar since week 3, Jones actually looked decent in week 10 rushing for 88 yards. Jones’ fantasy stock could see any even bigger boost with the return of QB Matt Hasselbeck this week. That said, Jones remains a risky fantasy play until he can show that he is capable of consistent production. He makes for a shaky week 11 fantasy start against a fairly solid Arizona run defense.

27. Earnest Graham (TB) – While Graham has scored at least 1 TD in his last 7 home games going back to last season, the deck is pretty much stacked against him this week otherwise. Graham is nursing a knee injury, he has to split carries with Warrick Dunn, and his week 11 match up is less than favorable. If you can afford to sit him this week, it is not a bad idea against Minnesota’s 3rd ranked run defense under the circumstances. Check injury report: knee

28. Antonio Pittman (STL) – With Steven Jackson still battling a quad injury, Pittman is slated to get the start once again in week 11. He will have a pretty favorable match up against a mediocre San Francisco run defense, but Pittman has yet to show much potential, and his supporting cast is far from solid. He is a shaky fantasy play at best. Check injury report: hamstring

29. Peyton Hillis (DEN) – He is expected to start for the Broncos in week 11 and the match up against the Falcons 21st ranked run defense holds some promise. That said, Hillis is actually a full back playing tailback, and he will likely be in a platoon role with P.J. Pope and Tatum Bell. He could do well, but there are just too many question marks for us to recommend him as a week 11 starting option.

30. Jonathan Stewart (CAR) – You should see a healthier Stewart back on the field in week 11, but after the way DeAngelo Williams has been tearing it up lately, it may be on a very limited basis. In spite of a great match up against a horrible Detroit run defense, there is guarantee that Stewart will see more than a few carries. You are probably best served keeping him reserved unless you desperately need his services.

31. Kevin Smith (DET) – He is playing well of late, but we do not highly recommend him with a tough week 11 match up at Carolina.

32. Justin Fargas (OAK) – He looked good last week, but Fargas is not dependable against a solid Miami run defense.

33. Mewelde Moore (PIT) – He should continue to see action in week 11, but Willie Parker’s return will severely limit his opportunities.

34. Dominic Rhodes (IND) – He could see significant action against a porous Houston run defense in week 11. Then again, if Addai gets going, Rhodes may only see a couple of touches.

35. Jerious Norwood (ATL) – He could bust loose on a soft Denver run defense, but he is limited behind Michael Turner.

36. Cedric Benson (CIN) – He looked great in week 9, but a match up against the Eagles does not bode well. Look for the Bengals to have to abandon the running game early in this game which will severely limit Benson’s potential. Check injury report: back

37. Derrick Ward (NYG) – He continues to play well in spite of a limited role, but a week 11 match up against the NFL’s best run defense is brutal.

38. Warrick Dunn (TB) – He should see a significant work load, but that isn’t worth much against a stout Minnesota run defense. Check injury report: back

39. Ray Rice (BAL) – He should see action in relief of McGahee, but it will be limited and the match up is bad.

40. Fred Taylor (JAX) – He showed promise in week 10, but he has little chance in week 11 against the Titans.

Fantasy Football Week 9 Running Back Rankings

1. Brian Westbrook (PHI) –If his monster effort in week 8 is any indication, we would say that Westbrook is pretty close to full strength health wise. He is expected to come up big again in week 9 against a struggling Seattle defense that ranks near the bottom of the NFL in both run and pass defense. Westbrook is an obvious must start. Check injury report: ankle, ribs

2. Adrian Peterson (MIN) – He appears to be back on track and Peterson should dominate a Houston run defense that ranks 21st in the NFL. The Texans give up an average of 120 rushing yards per game and they have allowed a whopping 11 TD’s on the ground in just 7 games. Peterson is a no brainer for your fantasy roster in week 9.

3. Matt Forte (CHI) – While the Lions were able to limit Forte to 61 total yards by stacking the box against him back in week 5, he still managed to find the end zone 2 times in that game. Now that the Bears passing attack is clicking, we expect Detroit’s focus on defense to be a little more balanced which should produce better rushing numbers for Forte this time around. The Lions have one of the worst run defenses in the NFL allowing 163 yards per game with a rank of 31st. As a side note, Forte is currently on a 3 game TD streak. Get him in your fantasy line up pronto!

4. Earnest Graham (TB) – With Warrick Dunn missing practice again on Thursday, it appears that Graham will likely see a heavy workload on Sunday. Graham hasn’t been lighting it up lately in terms of yardage, but that should change in week 9 with a very promising match up against Kansas City. The Chiefs have the worst run defense in the NFL by far allowing a ridiculous 197 ground yards per game. They have also given up a league worst 14 rushing TD’s in just 7 games. Graham should dominate in week 9 and he should be on your fantasy roster.

5. Michael Turner (ATL) – At this point, it is obvious that Turner is only as good as his match up will allow him to be. Fortunately, week 9 provides fantasy owners with an excellent match up against a very porous Oakland run defense. The Raiders have allowed 11 rushing TD’s in 7 games and give up 144 ground yards per game. Turner should be great again in week 9.

The Chiefs have the worst run defense in the NFL by far allowing a ridiculous 197 ground yards per game. They have also given up a league worst 14 rushing TD’s in just 7 games.

6. Ronnie Brown (MIA) – It is evident that the wildcat offense has lost its luster as opposing defenses finally seem to have an answer for it, but Brown’s week 9 opponent can’t even stop a conventional running attack. Brown should get back on track after a rough patch with or without the wildcat. The Broncos currently rank 30th in run defense giving up 155 yards per game. Denver has also allowed 9 rushing TD’s on the ground in 7 games and it would probably be more if their pass defense wasn’t equally as bad.

7. Chris Johnson (TEN) – The fact that LenDale White continues to receive the goal line carries for the Titans does limit Johnson’s fantasy value a bit, but Johnson hasn’t had much trouble getting into the end zone himself lately with 4 rushing TD’s in his last 4 contests. He should continue to produce on a high level with yet another favorable match up in week 9. Green Bay ranks just 25th in run defense allowing 142 rushing yards per game, and they have yet to face a backfield as formidable as Tennessee’s. In addition, the Packers have allowed 6 run plays of over 20 yards this season which bodes well for the speedy rookie with his big play ability.

8. Brandon Jacobs (NYG) – After scoring 6 TD’s in his last 4 games, Jacobs TD streak came to halt in week 8 against Pittsburgh’s 3rd ranked run defense. Week 9 should prove to be less challenging against the Cowboys, but not by much. Dallas currently ranks 11th against the run allowing 95 yards per game. They have also been stingy this season in goal line situations allowing just 6 rushing TD’s in 8 games. The promising news is that Steven Jackson, who is similar in running style, ran all over this defense in week 7 accounting for 3 of the 6 rushing TD’s the Cowboys have allowed this season. It won’t be easy, but we like Jacob’s chances to rebound nicely this week.

9. Marion Barber (DAL) – There is no question that Barber will have his hands full in week 9 against the Giants 7th ranked run defense, but he should get a ton of touches, and so long as that is the case; Barber has the talent to be productive in any match up. He should also prove useful in the Cowboys passing attack.

10. Clinton Portis (WAS) – Unfortunately, the stud RB has a couple of things going against him this week. For starters, he is now nursing an ankle injury that has kept him from practicing on Wednesday and Thursday. Secondly, Portis has a horrible match up against the NFL’s 3rd ranked run defense. The Steelers only allow 72 rushing yards per game and have given up just 3 rushing TD’s all season. The promising news is that Portis will have an extra day to heal up with the game being played on Monday night and he typically plays through injuries and plays well. In addition, Portis has been a monster lately averaging 139 rushing yards over his last 5 games while exceeding 120 rushing yards in all 5 of those contests. He is too hot to sit against any opponent when fully healthy, but that appears to be an uncertainty as of right now. Check injury report: ankle

11. Maurice Jones-Drew (JAX) – He is arguably the most frustrating fantasy option out there this season. We all know what he is capable of doing, and he has done just that on two separate occasions this season, but he is definitely proving to be hit or miss (more miss). Our best advice is to play the match ups. Jones-Drew’s two biggest games this season (his only 2) both came against soft run defenses in Denver and Indianapolis. While playing the match ups is not fail safe as Jones-Drew proved with a poor week 8 performance against a fairly porous Browns run defense, it is probably your only option at this point, and you never know when he is going to break out. Fortunately, week 9 provides another cushy match up against the Bengals 28th ranked run defense. Jones-Drew should bounce back this week, and he is probably your best bet depending on your other options at RB.

12. Steven Jackson (STL) – Before missing week 8 with a thigh injury, Jackson was one of the hottest things going in fantasy football. In his last 3 games, he has 4 TD’s and is averaging 153 total yards per game. Jackson will face a fairly solid Arizona run defense that gives up less than 100 rushing yards per game and has only allowed 5 rushing TD’s on the season. Despite the questionable match up, Jackson is a must start fantasy option for week 9 if healthy. He was optimistic after Thursday’s practice about his chances to play, but Rams coach Jim Haslett calls it a 50-50 proposition. Monitor his status closely and weigh your options appropriately. Jackson would be ranked higher if fully healthy, but he will likely be limited if he does play and risks further injury. UPDATE: Jackson is active and expected to play in week 9 against Arizona. He may be limited and is a risky fantasy play as an early exit is very possible.Check injury report: thigh

13. Willis McGahee (BAL) – He is battling nagging knee and ankle problems, but we expect McGahee to see a full compliment of carries on Sunday. While the Browns will likely stack the box against him with the Ravens weak passing game, McGahee should still manage to put up solid numbers against this defense. Cleveland gives up 142 rushing yards per game on average and they have allowed 8 rushing TD’s in 7 games this season. McGahee totaled 75 yards and a score in limited action against Cleveland in week 2. In addition, he exceeded 100 rushing yards in both games against them last season also adding a TD. McGahee will need help from the passing game to get things rolling, but he should be solid for week 9. UPDATE: McGahee is active for week 9, but the Ravens intend to go back to the 3 headed monster platoon system that they used earlier this season (probably just until McGahee is back to 100%).Check injury report: ankle

14. Marshawn Lynch (BUF) – We aren’t real high on Lynch for week 9 for two reasons. One, he has yet to rush for more than 83 yards in a game all season and two, the Jets 4th ranked run defense is by far the best unit he has faced this year. That said, Lynch is also a very talented fantasy RB and his 6 TD’s so far this season speak highly of his ability to find the end zone. The Jets do not give up many ground yards, but they are allowing 1 rushing TD per game which bodes well. Don’t expect a big time game from him this week, but Lynch is a candidate to find the end zone with this match up.

15. LenDale White (TEN) – He has been a TD machine recently with 5 rushing TD’s in his last 2 games and he leads the NFL with 10 rushing TD’s on the season. White is always a strong candidate to find the end zone, and week 9 is no exception against a porous Packers run defense, but there is risk involved with starting him. If for some reason White does not find pay dirt, he doesn’t typically offer much in the yardage department. That said, he is on a roll and probably worth the risk. As long as the smell of hot dogs and pizza radiates from the end zone concession stands at LP Field, White will probably find his way there.

16. Joseph Addai (IND) – He is not listed on the Colts injury report and he has practiced in full so far everyday this week. Addai is expected to start in week 9 and will likely play with little to no limitation based on early indications. He has struggled so far this season in terms of yardage, but he was starting to find his way into the end zone, scoring 4 TD’s over 3 consecutive games, before injuring his hamstring in week 6. While Addai might be a bit rusty and a slight injury risk, we still like his chances for decent production against a shaky Patriots run defense. New England ranks just 20th against the run, but they have been solid inside the red zone, only giving up 4 rushing TD’s on the season. As a side note, Addai has a very rich history against the Patriots.

17. Justin Fargas (OAK) – He hasn’t been very productive as of late, but he really wasn’t expected to be with 3 brutal match ups in a row. Fargas should have a much easier row to hoe in week 9 against a porous Falcons run defense. Atlanta is giving up 129 rushing yards per game this season and they have also allowed 9 rushing TD’s through 7 games. Fargas should finally be able to find some running lanes with this match up and he is always dangerous. Also, he should be in for additional carries with Darren McFadden expected to miss week 9. McFadden is reportedly suffering from turf toe on both feet now which makes him highly unlikely to suit up.

18. Steve Slaton (HOU) – He has been able to put up some very solid fantasy numbers to this point, but he hasn’t had to face a formidable run defense in several weeks. That is exactly what he will see in week 9 when Slaton will match up against the Vikings 2nd ranked run defense. Minnesota is only allowing 71 rushing yards per game and they are coming in fresh off of a bye week. While this match up is very dangerous, there is a silver lining. The Vikings can be vulnerable against the run in the red zone, as they have allowed 7 ground TD’s in 7 games. Slaton has the talent and ability to be successful, but this defense is relentless against the run, so keep your expectations realistic.

19. Ryan Grant (GB) – We do expect bigger and better things from Grant in the second half of the season, but a big week 9 performance against the Titans is probably a long shot. The Titans have shown a little vulnerability against the run in recent weeks, but they are still a pretty dominant group, and with the exception of week 7, Grant hasn’t exactly torched anyone. Despite the unfavorable match up, Grant does have a few things in his favor. He is coming off of his best game of the season, fresh off of a bye week, and the Titans are coming off of a short week of practice after playing on Monday night. He is risky, but capable for week 9.

20. Willie Parker (PIT) – He is expected to play on Monday night, but you should remain cautious with his fragile knee. Parker probably could have picked a better week to return as well. He will likely have his hands full against Washington’s top 5 run defense. The Redskins have been one of the best teams in the NFL this season against the run only allowing 83 yards per game and they have given up just 4 rushing TD’s in 8 games. When healthy, Parker is capable of putting up big ground yards on even the best defense, but we aren’t certain that he will be 100% for this match up, and he risks further injury. You might want to take a wait and see approach with Parker for week 9 unless your options are limited at RB. Check injury report: knee

21. Jamal Lewis (CLE) – A week 9 match up against the Ravens top ranked run defense is not exactly favorable, but Lewis typically fares well against his former team totaling 186 yards and 2 TD’s against them in 2 games last season. That wasn’t so much the case when he faced them earlier this season in week 4, but the Cleveland offense has shown vast improvement since week 4. Now that the Browns passing game is clicking to some extent, Lewis should have more opportunities this time around. Despite the fact that the Ravens are a monster on defense, you could do much worse than Lewis.

22. Thomas Jones (NYJ) – Jones has been very productive lately, but the cup cake match ups over the last 3 weeks didn’t hurt. He will probably have to return to reality this week against a fairly solid Bills run defense. Buffalo is vulnerable to TD’s on the ground allowing 8 in 7 games this season, but they are pretty stingy in the yardage department which isn’t a strong suit for Jones anyway. Also, the Jets will probably return to a pass heavy attack this week, which further limits Jones’ fantasy value. Even against a horrible Chiefs run defense last week, he only had 14 carries. He hasn’t a decent shot at finding pay dirt, otherwise he doesn’t have much to offer this week.

23. Michael Pittman (DEN) – He has proven to be a solid fantasy back since taking over a feature role in the Broncos backfield. That said, week 9 is not especially promising. Pittman is battling a rib injury and he will face a pretty good Miami run defense. In addition, Selvin Young is expected to be back this week, so it is anyone’s guess as to how Denver will divvy up the carries. Pittman is capable, but there are too many question marks to consider him as a solid starting option this week. Check injury report: ribs

24. Kevin Faulk (NE) – With all of the injuries and comers and goers in the Patriots back field recently, Faulk is the only reliable staple they have. He isn’t going to get a full compliment of carries, but he typically does not need many to be productive. He should do well against a shaky Colts run defense in week 9. Faulk is especially useful in PPR leagues as his strong suit is as a receiver out of the backfield. He is a quality bye week replacement for week 9.

25. Tim Hightower (ARI) – He is expected to have a more prominent role in the Cardinals offense moving forward and may even replace Edgerrin James as the feature back in the near future. Hightower also has a promising week 9 match up against the Rams 29th ranked run defense. St. Louis has given up 11 rushing TD’s in 7 games, so it is a fairly safe bet to count on him finding the end zone as usual. Keep in mind that Hightower is still the back up for the time being and that he plays in a pass heavy offense which limits his potential, but he is not a bad play for week 9 as a bye week fill in, and he has a lot of upside for the future.

26. Fred Taylor (JAX) – In spite of a promising week 9 match up against the Bengals 28th ranked run defense, Taylor is not a highly recommended fantasy option. You never know when he is going to break out, but based on his performances so far this season, there is not a safe match up for Taylor. If you can, keep him on the bench, if not, hope for the best because a solid effort is not out of the realm of possibilities. It’s just not likely.

27. Edgerrin James (ARI) – About the only thing he really has going for him heading into week 9 is a favorable match up against a weak Rams run defense. He is on the verge of losing his job to Tim Hightower and his workload is on the decline in the cardinals pass heavy offense. He could do some damage given the cup cake match up, but don’t expect much.

28. Ricky Williams (MIA) – In spite of 2 TD’s in the last 3 games, Williams remains a last resort for most fantasy rosters. That said, we do like him this week as a bye week fill in. He probably won’t see an extraordinary number of touches in week 9, but he may not need many to do damage against a horrible Broncos run defense.

29. Cedric Benson (CIN) – He probably isn’t worth starting in week 9 against Jacksonville. The Jaguars have not been great against the run this season, but Benson has yet to top 52 yards in a game all season, and he has 0 TD’s. He is a long shot to do any real damage this week or any other.

30. Kolby Smith (KC) – He is now the feature RB for the Chiefs as the only healthy or non suspended option they have left on the roster. That said, his fantasy value remains extremely limited for week 9 against a stout Tampa Bay run defense. The Bucs only give up 88 rushing yards per game and they are the only team in the NFL that has yet to allow a TD on the ground this season. Smith was great filling in for Larry Johnson last season, but that was last season, and he has yet to top 20 rushing yards in 2 starts in ‘08. Smith should have better numbers this week with the increased workload, but don’t expect much.

31. BenJarvis Green-Ellis (NE) – We like what he brings to the table, especially against a weak Colts run defense, but there is a chance that he may never even see the field in week 9 if LaMont Jordan is healthy enough to play. Even if Green–Ellis gets the start, use him only as a bye week fill in, as Kevin Faulk will probably see the majority of playing time in the Patriots backfield.

32. Mewelde Moore (PIT) – He should continue to see the field in week 9 even with the return of Willie Parker. The problem is, you can never be sure how much we will actually play. If Parker suffers a setback with his knee, it could be a lot, but more than likely, you should expect just a handful of carries. Moore is not a safe fantasy option for week 9 and the match up against Washington is not very good even if Moore was to get all of the carries.

33. Kevin Smith (DET) – He probably won’t see the field much playing behind Rudi Johnson, but he is still the better fantasy option of the two. While the match up against Chicago is less than favorable, Smith did find the end zone the last time the Lions faced the Bears in week 5.

34. Julius Jones (SEA) – His fantasy stock continues to plummet, and a week 9 match up against a tough Philadelphia run defense probably isn’t going to help matters.

35. Chester Taylor (MIN) – He will only be used sparingly in week 9, but the match up against Houston is favorable, and Taylor is always a TD threat.

36. Derrick Ward (NYG) – In spite of his limited game use, Ward has posted modest fantasy totals this season. Don’t expect much in week 9 against a solid Cowboys run defense.

37. Leon Washington (NYJ) – In our opinion, he is the best RB on the Jets roster. It’s just too bad the Jets coaching staff doesn’t feel the same way. He should see an increased role given his recent success, but the match up isn’t great against the Bills, and that role will still be minimal.

38. Dominic Rhodes (IND) – With Joseph Addai back from injury, Rhodes will likely see only a handful of carries against New England. There is a chance that Addai suffers a set back with his hamstring in which case Rhodes would again take over, but that is wishful thinking if you are still depending on Rhodes (and you shouldn’t be). Just be thankful that it was good while it lasted. It might not be a bad idea to hang onto him for another week to see what happens if you can afford to do so. Check injury report: ankle

39. Rudi Johnson (DET) – He will start in week 9, but that is about all that he has going for him against a stout Bears run defense.

40. Maurice Morris (SEA) – He is starting to see a more prominent role in the Seahawks running game again, but that isn’t worth much against a formidable Eagles run defense in week 9.

WEEK 15 RB RANKINGS

1. LaDainian Tomlinson (SD) – In his last 2 games, Tomlinson has accumulated 323 rushing yards and 4 TD’s. He is a must start against a struggling Lions run defense.
2. Joseph Addai (IND) – While Addai has struggled to find yards on the ground in recent weeks, he has maintained his ability to find the end zone with 5 TD’s in his last 4 games. Look for him to get the ground game going this week against the Raiders 31st ranked run defense. Addai should also have little trouble finding pay dirt as Oakland leads the NFL in rushing TD’s allowed. He should be golden in week 15.
3. Brian Westbrook (PHI) – This week’s match up against Dallas’ 4th ranked run defense looks tough for Westbrook on paper, but Westbrook usually steps up against them, and the Cowboys have allowed 276 rushing yards and 5 rushing TD’s in their last 2 games. In a week 9 meeting against them, Westbrook rushed for 65 yards and a TD, and caught 14 passes for 90 yards. He will have his work cut out for him, but Westbrook should be more than up to the challenge. (Check injury report: knee)
4. Ryan Grant (GB) – He continues to blow through opposing defenses with ease. In his last 5 games, Grant has accumulated 621 total yards and 5 TD’s. Grant should carve up the Rams 21st ranked run defense with ease.
5. Adrian Peterson (MIN) – He continues to shock and surprise, only last week, it was of the negative variety. Peterson only managed 3 yards on 14 carries in what looked to be a great match up. In week 15, Peterson will face the 24th ranked run defense of the Bears. In week 6, he rushed for 224 yards and 3 TD’s against them. You should consider last week a fluke, and Peterson should bounce back nicely against Chicago at home on Monday night.
6. Willis McGahee (BUF) – After 7 straight weeks with a TD, McGahee had a bit of a let down against the Colts last week. He should easily get back on track in week 15 against a Miami defense that ranks last in the NFL in stopping the run.
7. Earnest Graham (TB) – Graham has turned into one of the top fantasy RB’s of the ’07 season. He has now found the end zone at least once in 5 straight games. He should be able to make it 6 in a row this week against a Falcons team in turmoil. Atlanta ranks a pathetic 27th in stopping the run, and Graham rushed for 102 yards and 1 TD against them in week 11. Graham is a must start.
8. Jamal Lewis (CLE) – He has been on fire in recent weeks scoring at least 1 TD in 4 consecutive games. Lewis has now scored a total of 9 TD’s in his last 6 contests. He should be able to continue his hot streak this week against a mediocre Bills run D.
9. Marshawn Lynch (BUF) – After missing 3 weeks with a bad ankle, Lynch returned in week 14 with a nice 107 yard rushing effort. He should be able to keep the momentum rolling into week 15 when he will the Browns 28th ranked run defense. If Lynch gets enough carries, he should have a nice day.
10. Steven Jackson (STL) – He will have a tough test in front of him this week against the Packers. Green Bay ranks a solid 12th against the run, but more importantly, they have only allowed 4 rushing TD’s all season. Jackson is a very capable fantasy RB, and a big game is never out of the question for someone of his talent, but this one is a bit scary.
11. Marion Barber (DAL) – He has been streaky this season, but luckily, his current streak is of the hot variety. Barber has now scored 4 TD’s in his last 3 games, including 3 last week. He also had an impressive 10 receptions for 61 yards in week 14. This week he will face a tough, but manageable Eagles run defense. In week 9, Barber accumulated 106 total yards and a TD against Philadelphia.
12. LenDale White (TEN) – After a stretch of horrible games, White appears to be back on track. In his last 2 contests, White has totaled 204 yards with 2 TD’s. This week he will face a beat up and struggling Kansas City defense that ranks 25th against the run, and has now allowed 5 rushing TD’s in their last 3 games. White is a solid week 15 starting option if there are no further issues with a sore knee. (Check injury report: knee)
13. Rudi Johnson (CIN) – Johnson’s late season surge has put him back on the fantasy map. He has now scored a TD in 3 straight games. This week he will face the 26th ranked run defense of the 49ers. While there are no guarantees that Johnson’s run of good fortune will continue, the match up bodes well for him.
14. Frank Gore (SF) – While Gore has been an effective tool in the 49er passing game in recent weeks, he does not get the number of carries necessary for him to be effective on the ground. If San Francisco can hang with the Bengals in the scoring department, Gore could have a huge day, but like most weeks, that probably won’t happen. Under any circumstance, Gore should put up decent numbers as a receiver out of the backfield, and a TD is not out of the question. The potential is there, but they must get him the ball. (Check injury report: ankle)
15. Brandon Jacobs (NYG) – He did not have a great week 14 return from a hamstring injury, but Jacobs should be in much better shape this week against the Redskins. It will be a tough match up, but a healthy Jacobs usually runs over any and all opponents. He may not bounce back from his mediocre outing in a huge way, but Jacobs should put up solid numbers.
16. Aaron Stecker (NO) – He put together a solid 100 yard rushing effort in his first game carrying the load for the Saints. This week he will face an up and down Arizona run defense at home. There are no guarantees, but he has decent value in week 15.
17. Willie Parker (PIT) – The negative aspect of starting a guy like Parker is his inability to score TD’s on a consistent basis. He typically puts up great yardage totals, but in most leagues, rushing yards are given secondary consideration compared to rushing TD’s in fantasy scoring. Parker is capable, but he will have to fight for yards against Jacksonville’s 5th ranked run defense.
18. Kevin Jones (DET) – He can be a very dangerous guy to start, but when he gets a reasonable number of carries, Jones typically comes up big. In week 15, he will face the 19th ranked San Diego run defense. The Chargers D is susceptible to giving up big plays in the run game, and they will be without their top defender this week, Shawne Merriman. Jones must get the ball at least 17 times to be effective, but the potential is there.
19. Chester Taylor (MIN) – The fact that Taylor has to make do with Adrian Peterson’s leftover carries makes him a risky start, but the numbers don’t lie and his numbers have been great. He has now scored a TD in his last 4 games, and has 6 total TD’s over that same span. Taylor may get scraps, but he definitely makes the most of them. He has a favorable match up against the Bears 24th ranked run defense.
20. Fred Taylor (JAX) – He has been pouring it on opposing defenses in recent weeks. Taylor has now posted 3 straight 100 + yard games in a row. He also has a TD in 2 out of those 3 games. He will have a very tough test this week in the form of the 2nd ranked run defense of the Steelers. Taylor is a capable fantasy RB, but you can probably expect the 100 yard game streak to end here. If you start him, lower your expectations this week.
21. Clinton Portis (WAS) – He has really struggled to find yards on the ground in recent weeks. Over his last 4 games, Portis is averaging a miserable 47.5 yards rushing per game. He was effective last week in the passing game, catching 6 passes for 86 yards. Portis will have his work cut out for him in week 15 against the Giants 7th ranked run defense. While ground yards will be hard to come by, Portis is always capable of hitting pay dirt any week. Consider him a risky start this week.
22. Edgerrin James (ARI) – He continues to struggle in the ground game averaging 68 yards per game in his last 6. James has also gone scoreless for 3 straight weeks. Life will not get any easier in week 15 against the Saints 8th ranked run defense. James is not a safe start this week.
23. Maurice Jones-Drew (JAX) – He has not fared well in recent weeks in the ground yardage department, but he does have 3 TD’s in his last 4 games. He will match up this week against Pittsburgh’s 2nd ranked run defense, so if you are planning on starting him, your best bet is to pray for a TD.
24. Justin Fargas (OAK) – After 2 huge rushing efforts in a row, Fargas was forced to leave last week’s Green Bay game early with a rib injury. Fargas will be back this week against the Colts. While Indy claims a pretty average run defense, Fargas may not be much of a factor against them, especially if the Colts jump out to a big lead as expected.
25. Shaun Alexander (SEA) – After a decent week 13 effort, Alexander fell back into obscurity in week 14. This week’s match up against Carolina’s 20th ranked run defense holds some promise, but Alexander has not shown that he can get the job done against anyone all season.
26. Adrian Peterson (CHI) – Peterson has not shown much since taking over the starting job, and should not be seriously considered for a week 15 start against Minnesota’s top ranked run defense.
27. Laurence Maroney (NE) – If you are trying to make a playoff run, Maroney is not a guy you want to start. He does not get enough carries, and TD’s have been few and far between for him this season. In spite of a good match up against the Jets, he is not worth the risk.
28. DeShaun Foster (CAR) – He continues to struggle, and is not worth much consideration in week 15 against Seattle.
29. Chris Brown (TEN) – He is capable of doing a lot with a little. While Brown will likely see his usual back up scraps, he has the ability to do some damage, especially against a weak and beat up Kansas City run defense. He won’t have a monster game by any means, but 40 or 50 yards and a TD is not out of the question for him.
30. Thomas Jones (NYJ) – He has little value this week against New England.
31. Jesse Chatman (MIA) – He should be back this week, but Chatman will likely be limited, and has little value against Baltimore’s 3rd ranked run defense. (Check injury report: ankle)
32. Julius Jones (DAL) – In a week 9 meeting with Philadelphia, Jones had 79 total yards and a TD. A repeat performance is not likely, and Jones has minimal value this time around.
33. Jerious Norwood (ATL) – He has the ability to do some damage against Tampa Bay, but a lack of touches limits his fantasy value.
34. Kolby Smith (KC) – Smith has proven to be a capable fantasy back, but with both starting OT’s out, he is pretty much useless against a very tough Titans run defense. Smith only rushed for 12 yards on 13 carries last week against Denver without his big boys leading the way. He is not worth starting, especially if you are trying to make a playoff run. (Check injury report: knee)
35. Maurice Morris (SEA) – With the return of Shaun Alexander, Morris does not get enough touches to be considered a worthy fantasy starter.
