Fantasy Football Week 9 QB Rankings

1. Kurt Warner (ARI) – The hot handed Warner will take the air show on the road to St. Louis in week 9 to take on his former team. While the Rams pass defense has mildly improved in recent weeks, they are far from solid. St. Louis currently ranks 26th in the NFL against the pass. Now that Anquan Boldin is back in the Cardinals line up, Warner has three very capable receivers at his disposal, and the Arizona passing attack is arguably the most dangerous in the NFL. Warner should shred the Rams secondary in week 9.

2. Donovan McNabb (PHI) – In spite of his struggles to find the end zone in recent weeks, McNabb remains a must start fantasy option with the right match up. Fortunately, week 9 presents an excellent match up against Seattle. The Seahawks have one of the worst pass defenses in the NFL allowing 245 yards per game. In addition, they have given up 11 passing TD’s in 7 games, so the odds are in McNabb’s favor to find pay dirt at least once, if not multiple times. This should prove to be one of his better performances of the season.

3. Jay Cutler (DEN) – He hit a bit of a rough patch before the week 8 bye with many of the key members of his supporting cast sidelined with injuries. Cutler should have most, if not all of those guys back in week 9 which will be extremely beneficial to his fantasy production. It also doesn’t hurt that he will be playing against Miami this week. The Dolphins rank 25th against the pass and have allowed 25 pass plays over 20 yards in just 7 games (only the Saints have allowed more). Cutler should get back on track with this favorable week 9 match up.

4. Kyle Orton (CHI) – He is quickly turning into one of the more solid fantasy options at the QB position this season. In his last 4 contests, Orton has thrown for 8 TD’s and only 2 interceptions while averaging 276 passing yards per game. He should continue that trend with a very promising week 9 match up at home against Detroit. The Lions currently rank 31st in pass defense allowing 259 yards per game. They have also given up 12 TD’s through the air in just 7 games. Orton had his best fantasy effort of the season on the road against Detroit in week 5 throwing for 334 yards, 2 TD’s, and 0 interceptions. He should definitely be in your fantasy line up this week with this extremely favorable match up.

5. Matt Schaub (HOU) – In his last 4 games, Schaub has 10 total TD’s (1 rushing) and only 2 interceptions while averaging 308 yards passing per game. Granted, he hasn’t played against the stiffest of competition in those games, but it’s extremely impressive none the less. The good news is that Schaub has yet another favorable match up in week 9 against Minnesota. The Vikings mediocre pass defense currently ranks 20th in the NFL, so we like Schaub’s chances to extend his hot streak.

Fantasy Football Week 7 QB Rankings

1. Drew Brees (NO) – He has without question been the most consistent top flight fantasy QB so far this season. Brees’ average game in 2008 consists of 332 passing yards with 2 TD’s, and only 1 interception. He will face off against Carolina’s #2 ranked pass defense in week 7. While the Panthers pass defense looks excellent on paper, they have only faced one legitimate fantasy QB all season. That was a week 1 game against Phillip Rivers in which he torched them for 3 TD passes. In spite of what appears to be a difficult match up, Brees should excel once again in week 7, especially if WR Marques Colston and TE Jeremy Shcokey return to the Saints starting line up as expected. Brees threw for 260 yards and 3 TD’s in his last meeting with the Panthers in 2007.

2. Peyton Manning (IND) – We can’t think of a better way that Manning could have jump started his season than by lighting up the Ravens top ranked pass defense. After a mediocre start to his 2008 campaign, he returned to form in week 6 by torching Baltimore for 271 yards and 3 TD’s. With a week 7 match up against Green Bay on the horizon, Manning stands a good chance to stay on track, full steam ahead. The Packers deceptively rank 7th in the NFL in passing yards allowed, but when you look at the level of competition they have faced in opposing QB’s this season, it is easy to comprehend why. The couple of times that they have faced an elite caliber QB this season, the results were not as rosy, and they rank near the bottom of the NFL with 9 passing TD’s allowed. After only one big game, it is still a bit pre mature to say that Manning has returned to elite fantasy QB status, but things are certainly looking up, and we like his chances against a beat up Green Bay secondary.

3. Jay Cutler (DEN) – While Cutler’s numbers have dropped off over the last few weeks, he remains a top flight fantasy option when the match up calls for it. A week 7 meeting against New England is just favorable enough. The Patriots pass defense has been solid ranking 12th in yards allowed, but they have been shaky at best in keeping opposing WR’s out of the end zone, allowing 9 TD’s through the air on the season. In addition, they have struggled against big play WR’s this season, and it just so happens that Cutler has a big play WR in his arsenal with Brandon Marshall. Cutler might have his shaky moments, which have been fairly common lately, but all in all, this match up bodes well.

4. Matt Schaub (HOU) – He might seem a little risky based on his overall performance this season, but Schaub has been hot of late, and he has a great match up in a tough week for fantasy QB’s. In his last 2 starts, Schaub has thrown for 687 yards and 4 TD’s while adding another TD on the ground in week 6. In week 7, he will face the Lions 30th ranked pass defense. Detroit has allowed over 250 yards passing per game and they have also given up 9 TD’s through the air this season. It would not be surprising to see Schaub’s name at the top of the fantasy leader board in week 7 with this match up.

5. Aaron Rodgers (GB) – Whether it is through the air or on the ground, he simply has a knack for finding the end zone. Rodgers now has 14 TD’s on the season and he is proving to be almost as dangerous running the football as throwing it. That said, he might be forced into using his feet a little more in week 7 in order to be successful. Rodgers will likely be challenged by a stingy Colts pass defense that has only allowed 1 passing TD in 5 games this season. In addition, Indy ranks 6th in the NFL in passing yards allowed, giving up just over 173 yards per game. It will be a tall order for Rodgers to dominate the Indianapolis secondary through the air, but how can you bench a fantasy QB that has 6 TD’s in his last 2 games and has played at a top flight level all season? Rodgers remains a must start for week 7 in spite of the difficult match up. Check injury report: shoulder

Fantasy Football Week 5 QB Ranking

1. Tony Romo (DAL) – In spite of a week 4 loss to the Redskins, he had an excellent fantasy week, throwing for 300 yards and 3 TD’s. Romo is averaging close to 300 passing yards and exactly 2 TD’s per game so far this season. He should easily exceed those averages in week 5 against an overachieving Bengals pass defense that has yet to face a QB of his caliber. Romo could have his best game to date.

2. Drew Brees (NO) – In his last 2 games, he has thrown for 784 yards, 4 TD’s and just 1 interception. Brees continues to play on an extremely high level in spite of being without two of his top receiving threats. He will face an improved, yet vulnerable, Minnesota pass defense at home this week. If Lance Moore and Robert Meachem continue to step up in the passing game as expected, we see no reason why Brees should not have another big fantasy effort in week 5.

3. Peyton Manning (IND) – While he has struggled to some extent this season, it is only a matter of time before he breaks out and week 5 against the Texans looks like the match up that will get him going. In his last 4 games against Houston, Manning has been nearly flawless averaging almost 300 yards passing per game with 10 total TD’s and not even a single interception. He should easily get on track this week and is a must start on your fantasy roster.

4. Phillip Rivers (SD) – After putting up monster fantasy totals through the first 3 weeks, Rivers was fairly disappointing in week 4. The good news is that he will face Miami’s 26th ranked pass defense in week 5. The Dolphins have on average allowed 2 TD passes per game and only have 1 interception so far this season. He should get back on track with a great game given the match up and seems to be on a much more reliable pace than in the past. Despite the week 4 letdown, Rivers is worthy of a week 5 fantasy start.

5. Jay Cutler (DEN) – While he threw for an impressive 361 yards last week, he only managed to throw 1 TD pass, and tossed up 2 picks tarnishing what should have been a big fantasy day for him. Cutler is transcending into an elite QB, but you have to keep in mind that he still young and not immune to mistakes. He will have his work cut out for him in week 5 against Tampa Bay. The Bucs pass defense should provide a challenge as they are now tied for the most interceptions in the NFL with 8. That said, Tampa Bay is also not without their weaknesses as they have allowed 7 passing TD’s this season. Cutler has the talent and weapons to get it done in week 5, and we think he will, but don’t be surprised if he has a couple of hiccups.
