Fantasy Football Week 9 QB Rankings

1. Kurt Warner (ARI) – The hot handed Warner will take the air show on the road to St. Louis in week 9 to take on his former team. While the Rams pass defense has mildly improved in recent weeks, they are far from solid. St. Louis currently ranks 26th in the NFL against the pass. Now that Anquan Boldin is back in the Cardinals line up, Warner has three very capable receivers at his disposal, and the Arizona passing attack is arguably the most dangerous in the NFL. Warner should shred the Rams secondary in week 9.

2. Donovan McNabb (PHI) – In spite of his struggles to find the end zone in recent weeks, McNabb remains a must start fantasy option with the right match up. Fortunately, week 9 presents an excellent match up against Seattle. The Seahawks have one of the worst pass defenses in the NFL allowing 245 yards per game. In addition, they have given up 11 passing TD’s in 7 games, so the odds are in McNabb’s favor to find pay dirt at least once, if not multiple times. This should prove to be one of his better performances of the season.

3. Jay Cutler (DEN) – He hit a bit of a rough patch before the week 8 bye with many of the key members of his supporting cast sidelined with injuries. Cutler should have most, if not all of those guys back in week 9 which will be extremely beneficial to his fantasy production. It also doesn’t hurt that he will be playing against Miami this week. The Dolphins rank 25th against the pass and have allowed 25 pass plays over 20 yards in just 7 games (only the Saints have allowed more). Cutler should get back on track with this favorable week 9 match up.

4. Kyle Orton (CHI) – He is quickly turning into one of the more solid fantasy options at the QB position this season. In his last 4 contests, Orton has thrown for 8 TD’s and only 2 interceptions while averaging 276 passing yards per game. He should continue that trend with a very promising week 9 match up at home against Detroit. The Lions currently rank 31st in pass defense allowing 259 yards per game. They have also given up 12 TD’s through the air in just 7 games. Orton had his best fantasy effort of the season on the road against Detroit in week 5 throwing for 334 yards, 2 TD’s, and 0 interceptions. He should definitely be in your fantasy line up this week with this extremely favorable match up.

5. Matt Schaub (HOU) – In his last 4 games, Schaub has 10 total TD’s (1 rushing) and only 2 interceptions while averaging 308 yards passing per game. Granted, he hasn’t played against the stiffest of competition in those games, but it’s extremely impressive none the less. The good news is that Schaub has yet another favorable match up in week 9 against Minnesota. The Vikings mediocre pass defense currently ranks 20th in the NFL, so we like Schaub’s chances to extend his hot streak.

Fantasy Football Week 7 QB Rankings

1. Drew Brees (NO) – He has without question been the most consistent top flight fantasy QB so far this season. Brees’ average game in 2008 consists of 332 passing yards with 2 TD’s, and only 1 interception. He will face off against Carolina’s #2 ranked pass defense in week 7. While the Panthers pass defense looks excellent on paper, they have only faced one legitimate fantasy QB all season. That was a week 1 game against Phillip Rivers in which he torched them for 3 TD passes. In spite of what appears to be a difficult match up, Brees should excel once again in week 7, especially if WR Marques Colston and TE Jeremy Shcokey return to the Saints starting line up as expected. Brees threw for 260 yards and 3 TD’s in his last meeting with the Panthers in 2007.

2. Peyton Manning (IND) – We can’t think of a better way that Manning could have jump started his season than by lighting up the Ravens top ranked pass defense. After a mediocre start to his 2008 campaign, he returned to form in week 6 by torching Baltimore for 271 yards and 3 TD’s. With a week 7 match up against Green Bay on the horizon, Manning stands a good chance to stay on track, full steam ahead. The Packers deceptively rank 7th in the NFL in passing yards allowed, but when you look at the level of competition they have faced in opposing QB’s this season, it is easy to comprehend why. The couple of times that they have faced an elite caliber QB this season, the results were not as rosy, and they rank near the bottom of the NFL with 9 passing TD’s allowed. After only one big game, it is still a bit pre mature to say that Manning has returned to elite fantasy QB status, but things are certainly looking up, and we like his chances against a beat up Green Bay secondary.

3. Jay Cutler (DEN) – While Cutler’s numbers have dropped off over the last few weeks, he remains a top flight fantasy option when the match up calls for it. A week 7 meeting against New England is just favorable enough. The Patriots pass defense has been solid ranking 12th in yards allowed, but they have been shaky at best in keeping opposing WR’s out of the end zone, allowing 9 TD’s through the air on the season. In addition, they have struggled against big play WR’s this season, and it just so happens that Cutler has a big play WR in his arsenal with Brandon Marshall. Cutler might have his shaky moments, which have been fairly common lately, but all in all, this match up bodes well.

4. Matt Schaub (HOU) – He might seem a little risky based on his overall performance this season, but Schaub has been hot of late, and he has a great match up in a tough week for fantasy QB’s. In his last 2 starts, Schaub has thrown for 687 yards and 4 TD’s while adding another TD on the ground in week 6. In week 7, he will face the Lions 30th ranked pass defense. Detroit has allowed over 250 yards passing per game and they have also given up 9 TD’s through the air this season. It would not be surprising to see Schaub’s name at the top of the fantasy leader board in week 7 with this match up.

5. Aaron Rodgers (GB) – Whether it is through the air or on the ground, he simply has a knack for finding the end zone. Rodgers now has 14 TD’s on the season and he is proving to be almost as dangerous running the football as throwing it. That said, he might be forced into using his feet a little more in week 7 in order to be successful. Rodgers will likely be challenged by a stingy Colts pass defense that has only allowed 1 passing TD in 5 games this season. In addition, Indy ranks 6th in the NFL in passing yards allowed, giving up just over 173 yards per game. It will be a tall order for Rodgers to dominate the Indianapolis secondary through the air, but how can you bench a fantasy QB that has 6 TD’s in his last 2 games and has played at a top flight level all season? Rodgers remains a must start for week 7 in spite of the difficult match up. Check injury report: shoulder

Fantasy Football Week 5 QB Ranking

1. Tony Romo (DAL) – In spite of a week 4 loss to the Redskins, he had an excellent fantasy week, throwing for 300 yards and 3 TD’s. Romo is averaging close to 300 passing yards and exactly 2 TD’s per game so far this season. He should easily exceed those averages in week 5 against an overachieving Bengals pass defense that has yet to face a QB of his caliber. Romo could have his best game to date.

2. Drew Brees (NO) – In his last 2 games, he has thrown for 784 yards, 4 TD’s and just 1 interception. Brees continues to play on an extremely high level in spite of being without two of his top receiving threats. He will face an improved, yet vulnerable, Minnesota pass defense at home this week. If Lance Moore and Robert Meachem continue to step up in the passing game as expected, we see no reason why Brees should not have another big fantasy effort in week 5.

3. Peyton Manning (IND) – While he has struggled to some extent this season, it is only a matter of time before he breaks out and week 5 against the Texans looks like the match up that will get him going. In his last 4 games against Houston, Manning has been nearly flawless averaging almost 300 yards passing per game with 10 total TD’s and not even a single interception. He should easily get on track this week and is a must start on your fantasy roster.

4. Phillip Rivers (SD) – After putting up monster fantasy totals through the first 3 weeks, Rivers was fairly disappointing in week 4. The good news is that he will face Miami’s 26th ranked pass defense in week 5. The Dolphins have on average allowed 2 TD passes per game and only have 1 interception so far this season. He should get back on track with a great game given the match up and seems to be on a much more reliable pace than in the past. Despite the week 4 letdown, Rivers is worthy of a week 5 fantasy start.

5. Jay Cutler (DEN) – While he threw for an impressive 361 yards last week, he only managed to throw 1 TD pass, and tossed up 2 picks tarnishing what should have been a big fantasy day for him. Cutler is transcending into an elite QB, but you have to keep in mind that he still young and not immune to mistakes. He will have his work cut out for him in week 5 against Tampa Bay. The Bucs pass defense should provide a challenge as they are now tied for the most interceptions in the NFL with 8. That said, Tampa Bay is also not without their weaknesses as they have allowed 7 passing TD’s this season. Cutler has the talent and weapons to get it done in week 5, and we think he will, but don’t be surprised if he has a couple of hiccups.

Fantasy Football Week 4 Quarterback Rankings

1. Jay Cutler (DEN) – Week 4 should provide Cutler with a dream fantasy match up at Kansas City. While the Chiefs pass defense looks great on paper, they have yet to face a legitimate QB through the first 3 weeks (Cassel, Russell, & Ryan). In addition, Kansas City may be forced to start two rookie CB’s if veteran Patrick Surtain is unable to play again this week. Cutler threw for 244 yards, 4TD’s, and 0 interceptions in his last game against the Chiefs in’07. We expect Cutler to dominate this match up in week 4.

2. Tony Romo (DAL) – He is coming off of a lack luster week 3 by Romo standards, but he should bounce back in week 4 despite another difficult match up. While Romo had mixed results against the Redskins in two games last season, we expect him to get the better of them this time around. We find it hard to imagine that Terrell Owens will struggle in back to back weeks, and the game is in Dallas where Romo torched the Skins in ’07. The Washington pass defense has been solid to this point, but Romo has the weapons to give him the edge in week 4.

3. Drew Brees (NO) – Despite only throwing 1 TD pass in week 3, Brees had an otherwise stellar fantasy outing throwing for 421 yards and no interceptions. He will face an underrated and very efficient 49ers pass defense in week 4 that has only allowed 2 passing TD’s while accumulating 4 interceptions in their first 3 games. The San Francisco defense could prove to be a challenge, especially with Colston and Shockey both out for the Saints in week 4, but Brees should come out on top in this match up. He threw for 336 yards, 4 TD’s, and no interceptions against the 49ers last season.

4. Kurt Warner (ARI) – While he saw a bit of a drop off in week 3 against Washington, Warner remains one of the better starting fantasy QB’s, throwing for 6 TD’s and only 1 interception in 3 games this season. He will face a very mediocre Jets pass defense in week 4 that allowed 3 passing TD’s against San Diego last week. You probably shouldn’t expect a monster game from Warner this week, but it is not out of the question. Warner is a must start.

5. Aaron Rodgers (GB) – He wasn’t spectacular in week 3 against the Cowboys, but Rodgers was efficient and he held his own for the most part. Week 4 will provide Rodgers with his first “real” road test as he heads to Tampa Bay to face a solid Buccaneers pass defense. The Bucs defense does not look great on paper to this point, but they do have 5 interceptions in their first 3 games, and they are probably better than their stats would indicate. Regardless, Rodgers still has the edge in week 4, but he will likely throw his first interception of the season.

Fantasy Football Week 3 Quarterback Rankings

1. Jay Cutler (DEN) – He is the hottest fantasy QB out there right now throwing for 650 yards, 6 TD’s, and only 1 interception in his first 2 games. Cutler should continue to sizzle in week 3 against a shaky New Orleans pass defense that has given up an average of 256 yards passing in their first 2 games against average QB’s (Garcia and Campbell).

2. Tony Romo (DAL) – He is coming off of a strong week 2 performance against the Eagles, a team he had previously struggled against at home. Romo did make a couple of critical errors, but from a fantasy standpoint, it was a nice game for him. Romo will face the Packers in week 3. The Packers have given up more yards through the air than they would like to this point, but they also have more interceptions (4) than TD’s allowed through the air (3). If Romo can limit his mistakes, he should have another big game. Last season Romo threw for 309 yards, 4 TD’s and 1 interception against Green Bay.

3. Peyton Manning (IND) – While Manning has shown flashes of the greatness we are all accustomed to in his first two contests, he has also had his fair share of shaky moments. This is probably due to a battered offensive line and the lack of a quality running game against two run stopping defenses (Bears and Vikings). In week 3, Manning will face rival foe Jacksonville at home. Manning has had pretty good results against the Jags in recent years and threw for 288 yards and 4 TD’s against them at home last season. He might continue to have a rough patch here and there, but Manning is still more than worthy of a starting spot on your week 3 fantasy roster.

Fantasy Football Week 2 Quarterback Rankings

1. Peyton Manning (IND) – After knocking the rust off in week 1, Manning should turn in a much better performance in week 2. He will face a suspect Vikings pass defense that looked very shaky at times against the Packers. As usual, Manning is a must start.

2. Ben Roethlisberger (PIT) – Despite leaving last week’s game in the third quarter with a sore shoulder, Roethlisberger should be good to go in week 2. He has a very appealing match up against the Browns. In 2 games against Cleveland last season, Roethlisberger passed for 6 TD’s and only 1 interception. He should be in for another big game, especially considering how poor the Browns secondary played against Dallas in week1. Check injury report: shoulder

3. Aaron Rodgers (GB) – Sure, it was only one game, but Rodgers week 1 performance was compelling enough to convince us that he is a legitimate fantasy QB with top shelf potential, especially given the circumstances. Rodgers was extremely impressive in his first ever start and his numbers would have been even more impressive if not for a couple of ticky tack penalties. He still has much to prove, but the week 2 match up against a horrible Lions defense is too promising to pass on. If he is able to carry the momentum of week 1 into this week, look out!

4. Drew Brees (NO) – He passed through week 1 with flying colors and a week 2 match up at Washington looks equally promising. Losing his go to WR Marques Colston for 4 – 6 weeks is a blow that will affect him to some extent, but he still has a good cast of weapons, and should maintain his top 10 fantasy QB status. Brees is a no brainer for your fantasy roster this week and every week, with or without Colston.

5. Kurt Warner (ARI) – While Warner did not have the spectacular week 1 that many anticipated, he was solid. We expect him to improve on his week 1 performance at home against a fairly weak Dolphins defense in week 2.

Fantasy Football Week 6 Quarterback Rankings

1. Tony Romo (DAL) – He now has 6 passing TD’s in his last 2 games, but 4 of those TD’s came in the 4th quarter of both games after posting mediocre numbers up to that point. Romo will face a struggling Arizona pass defense in week 6 that has allowed 7 TD passes in their last 2 games. This game will likely turn into a shootout through the air that will favor Romo. You can probably expect him to throw at least 1 interception, as he has in 8 straight games now, but we expect him to put up big numbers otherwise.

2. Jay Cutler (DEN) – After a monster start to the 2008 season, Cutler has cooled off in his last 2 games. That said, we fully expect the hot hand to return in week 6 against a Jacksonville pass defense that is on the slide. The Jaguars pass defense now ranks 26th in the NFL and has allowed back to back 300 yard, 3 TD passing games, last week to a beat up Ben Roethlisberger and week 4 to a struggling Matt Schaub. Cutler has a good chance to extend Jacksonville’s streak to 3 straight games of 300 yards and 3 TD’s through the air. He is a must start with this match up.

3. Drew Brees (NO) – He had mixed results in his week 5 match up against the Vikings. While Brees managed to throw for over 300 yards for the third consecutive game, he only posted 1 TD and turned the ball over 3 times. He will face a middle of the road, but improving Raiders pass defense in week 6. Oakland’s secondary will probably challenge Brees to some extent in this game, but he will ultimately come out on top. Brees is averaging a league best 335 passing yards per game, and he should be in your week 6 fantasy line up.

4. Kurt Warner (ARI) – The average game so far this season for Warner includes 294 passing yards and 2 passing TD’s. He should be in that neighborhood once again in week 6 against a struggling and beat up Dallas pass defense in what looks to be a pass heavy match up. The Cowboys are allowing a lofty 210 passing yards per game and only have 1 interception on the season. Dallas will also be without starting CB Terence Newman and SS Roy Williams this week. Warner makes for a strong fantasy start in a favorable week 6 match up at home.

5. Aaron Rodgers (GB) – For a guy that could barely throw a tennis ball last Thursday in practice to go out and throw for over 300 yards and 3 TD’s on Sunday is impressive to say the least. Rodgers’ injured shoulder should be up to the challenge once again in week 6 as well. He will face the Seahawks 25th ranked pass defense that allows 237 passing yards per game on average. They have also given up 7 passing TD’s and only have 1 interception through 4 games. Rodgers should handle this defense with ease barring any setbacks with his shoulder. Check injury report: shoulder

6. Brett Favre (NYJ) – A 6 TD performance in week 4 has propelled Favre to an NFL leading 12 passing TD’s on the season in spite of a week 5 bye. While it is unimaginable to expect Favre to throw 6 TD’s in a week 6 match up with Cincinnati, we do expect another strong fantasy performance. The Bengals have been impressive against the pass so far this season, but that is mostly due to the ease with which teams run the football against them. In case you haven’t noticed, the Jets do not run the football often against any opponent, so Favre should put this defense to the test, and he will likely come out on top.

7. Jason Campbell (WAS) – Week 5 was not especially kind to Campbell and fantasy owners alike, but we do expect him to rebound with a strong week 6. Campbell will almost certainly come out throwing early and often against the Rams 28th ranked pass defense. St. Louis has been horrible against the pass so far this season allowing 246 yards passing per game, as well as 8 TD’s through the air and only 1 interception in 4 games. Campbell should get back to finding Santana Moss deep this week, and the match up is ideal for your starting fantasy roster.

8. Eli Manning (NYG) – Over his last 3 games, Manning is averaging 272 yards and 2 passing TD’s per game, and maybe more importantly, he has not thrown a single interception since week 1. There is no doubt that he has been impressive of late, but he hasn’t exactly faced any juggernauts on defense over that stretch either. He should be solid again in week 6, but the Browns pass defense will not be a pushover. The Cleveland pass defense ranks 10th in the NFL and they have only given up 3 passing TD’s in 4 games against some pretty good competition at QB. They have also recorded 6 interceptions. Manning should play well, especially with Plaxico Burress back from suspension, but don’t expect this match up to be a walk in the park for him as advertised just because it’s the Browns.

9. Peyton Manning (IND) – While Manning looked better in week 5 than he has looked all season; he was still below par by his standards. He will be hard pressed to show improvement in week 6 facing the Ravens number one ranked pass defense, but we like his chances. The Baltimore defense has been great defending the pass all season, but they have yet to face a passing attack of the Colts caliber. On top of that, Baltimore will be without CB’s Fabian Washington and Samari Rolle due to injuries. In addition, he threw for 249 yards and 4 TD’s in a game against them last season, although Manning and the Ravens defense were on opposite sides of the spectrum from where they each were at this time a year ago. We don’t think Manning will light them up as he did in 2007, but we do expect a solid effort.

10. Donovan McNabb (PHI) – After a strong fantasy campaign through the first 2 weeks, McNabb has struggled a bit in the face of stiff competition the last 3 weeks. A week 6 match up against the 49ers should provide some much needed relief, and we expect him to get back on track this week to some extent. We don’t think he will torch the 19th ranked San Francisco pass defense, especially if Brian Westbrook is out, but he should improve on his mediocre production in recent games. McNabb is worth starting in week 6, unless you have a better option.

11. Kyle Orton (CHI) – With an average of 267 yards passing and 7 TD’s in his last 3 games, Orton has been about as solid as anyone in the NFL at QB recently. It may not last for long, but we like his chances at least through week 6 with a favorable match up against Atlanta. The Falcons pass defense ranks near the bottom of the NFL and has allowed 9 passing TD’s already this season, not to mention an injured Aaron Rodgers lit them up last week. Orton probably isn’t your best week 6 fantasy option at QB, but if he is, ride the hot hand with this match up.

12. Phillip Rivers (SD) – The last 2 weeks have been an unwelcome reminder as to just how unreliable Rivers can be as a fantasy QB. After 3 straight monster efforts to begin the season, we gave him the benefit of the doubt that he had turned the corner with regard to his week to week dependability, but it was not to be. There is a possibility that he could get back on track in week 6 against New England, but we wouldn’t bet the farm on it. The Patriots are fairly solid against the pass and Rivers’ numbers are on a steady decline of late. To his credit, Rivers does tend to play well in night games, and he has a decent shot to do so again, but you might consider a better option this week if you have one until he gets back on track.

13. Jake Delhomme (CAR) – He still isn’t setting the world on fire, but Delhomme has shown vast improvement in his last 2 contests. He will face Tampa Bay’s 21st ranked pass defense in week 6. While the Buccaneers have struggled against opposing QB’s for the most part this season as their ranking suggests, they are still dangerous, especially in a division rivalry game at home. Delhomme has the weapons to do some damage, but we think this match up will be tougher than it looks on paper. He is only worth starting this week if your options are somewhat limited at QB.

14. Gus Frerotte (MIN) – He is not someone that we would typically suggest for fantasy use, but any QB facing the Lions has more than a decent shot at solid production. The Detroit pass defense has allowed 2 passing TD’s per game on average to go along with a lofty 250 yards passing per game. They only have 4 sacks on the season and have yet to record a single interception as well. While Frerotte has been decent through 3 starts this season, we aren’t sure that he is capable of torching any defense, even one as bad as the Lions. We do know that he almost certainly won’t hurt you with this match up, and he is solid this week if you are in need of a starting fantasy QB as a bye week replacement.

15. Matt Schaub (HOU) – He will return to the Texans starting line up this week after spending last weekend in the hospital with severe flu like symptoms. Schaub should be at full strength for a week 6 match up with Miami. While Schaub was worse than bad in his first 2 games of the season, week 4 proved to be a promising break out fantasy week for him. He will face a Dolphins pass defense that ranks 15th in the NFL, but they have shown great improvement in their last 2 games since being torched by Kurt Warner in week 2. In all honesty, we aren’t completely sold on Schaub or the Miami pass defense just yet, so it is anyone’s guess as to how this match up will turn out, but we think it favors Schaub slightly. We like Schaub’s potential, but one great game is not enough to remove the risky banner he so deservedly earned in his first 2 games.

16. David Garrard (JAX) – He isn’t quite back to putting up 2007 type numbers, but he seems to be getting a little better each week. That said, we kind of like his chances in week 6 against Denver. The Broncos pass defense has looked better in its own right the last 2 weeks, but they still rank near the bottom of the NFL in pass defense and have certainly proved vulnerable in that area. A week 6 start could pay off, but Garrard still hasn’t established himself as a reliable week to week fantasy option. Even with the promising match up, Garrard is a little shaky in our opinion.

17. Matt Cassel (NE) – The fact that he finally built up the nerve to throw to a double covered Randy Moss with positive results bodes well. A match up against the NFL’s worst pass defense this week doesn’t hurt either, but in all honesty, Cassel is not a very good QB, period. He has had great match ups practically every game he has started and has yielded mediocre results at best. Week 6 against a Charger pass defense that has allowed more passing yards and TD’s than any other team in the NFL certainly has the potential to be his best performance to date, but we wouldn’t count on it if we were you. Cassel is worthy as a bye week filler for week 6, but only because of the match up.

18. Chad Pennington (MIA) – He probably isn’t going to be the big bread winner in your fantasy line up this week or any week for that matter, but Pennington has established himself as an efficient signal caller that certainly won’t break you in any match up either. He will face a solid, but vulnerable Houston pass defense in week 6. Pennington is not a highly recommended fantasy option with this match up, but he should suffice if you are in a pinch.

19. J.T. O'Sullivan (SF) - With 6 TD passes in his last 3 games, O'Sullivan has proven to be a capable fantasy QB, but only when the match up is right. Unfortunately, a week 6 match up against the blitz heavy Philadelphia Eagles is not the right match up for him. The Eagles can be vulnerable against the pass, but O'Sullivan simply doesn't have the experience to dominate this defense. He is not a safe fantasy start this week, and should only be used if you are in a really tight spot.

20. Matt Ryan (ATL) - It looks like he is starting to come along nicely, and a 2 TD week 5 performance was his best to date, but he isn't quite there yet. In spite of a favorable match up against a shaky Bears secondary, we do not suggest using Ryan in fantasy play unless you are completely desperate.

NAME (Team) Bye Week
1. Tom Brady (NE) Bye Week 4 While it would be a stretch to expect him to duplicate last season’s phenomenal output, Brady remains your best bet for a fantasy QB.

2. Peyton Manning (IND) Bye Wk. 4 He may have lost his status as the “best” fantasy football QB, but Manning remains one of the few elite fantasy performers at his position. He is arguably the most consistent and durable QB in the NFL.

3. Tony Romo (DAL) Bye Week 10 With a stellar 2007 campaign under his belt, you have to consider him as one of the top fantasy QB options. Romo continues to top himself season after season, and with plenty of weapons in his arsenal, expect another monster effort.

4. Drew Brees (NO) Bye Week 9 After a miserable beginning in ’07, Brees closed out the season as strong as any fantasy QB. Brees should forego the drama that caused many fantasy owners to push the panic button early in ’07. Expect strong fantasy production from start to finish.

5. Derek Anderson (CLE) Bye Wk. 5 He was arguably the biggest sleeper in the history of fantasy football last season, and with a full compliment of weapons back at his disposal, Anderson is wide awake for ’08. While it would be a tall order to repeat last season’s lofty numbers, Anderson has the tools to get it done.
UPDATE: After experiencing complications resulting from his recent concussion, there is a chance that Anderson could be questionable for week 1.

Fantasy Football Week 1 QB Rankings

1. Tom Brady (NE)—In spite of missing the entire preseason, Brady should have little trouble shredding a young Kansas City defense. Unless there is a setback with his alleged injured foot (unlikely), Brady is a no brainer for a week 1 fantasy start. Check injury report: foot

2. Tony Romo (DAL)—The Cleveland defense should be improved in '08, but they are no match for Romo. This game could turn into a shootout and Romo has the potential to put up big fantasy numbers in this one.

3. Kurt Warner (ARI)—Warner threw for a staggering 484 yards and 2 TD's against San Francisco last season. He is unlikely to duplicate such lofty numbers on the road, but Warner should have a big game, and is a must start for your fantasy roster.

4. Peyton Manning (IND)—Most QB's would probably struggle after missing all of preseason and losing their best offensive lineman (C Jeff Saturday), but Peyton Manning is not your average QB. Manning does most of his practicing in the film room anyway, and his arm should be just fine. He will be prepared to give the Bears more than they can handle when the Colts take the field at brand new Lucas Oil Stadium. Check injury report: knee

5. Ben Roethlisberger (PIT)—He is coming off of an impressive '07 fantasy football campaign and Big Ben has never had so many quality weapons at his disposal. The Houston defense looks to be much improved, but their biggest weakness will probably be in the secondary. Roethlisberger should pick them apart.

6. Donovan McNabb (PHI)—He should have a field day at home against an unimproved Rams defense that allowed 226 yards passing per game and 25 TD's through the air last season. If the Rams play man to man, as they usually do, speedy rookie WR DeSean Jackson could propel McNabb to a monster game, but there are no guarantees with rookies.

7. John Kitna (DET)—With a new offense in place, the Lions are expected to lean more towards the run this season, but with a healthy Roy Williams and Calvin Johnson at his disposal, a match up against the Falcons is just too enticing for fantasy owners to pass up. The Atlanta defense ranked near the bottom in both passing yards allowed (228) and passing TD's allowed (27) last season, and that was with now departed star CB DeAngelo Hall (now with the Raiders).

8. Drew Brees (NO)—Brees will have his work cut out for him when he faces a very good and underrated Tampa Bay pass defense on Sunday in the Super Dome. He typically plays well against the Bucs, but has never put up spectacular fantasy numbers against them. A healthy Jeremy Shockey could be the edge he needs.

9. Derek Anderson (CLE)—Anderson will be facing a stout Cowboys defense at home, but he typically plays well in big games. If this game turns into a shootout as expected or the Browns get down early, Anderson will have to go to the air often. Barring any complications from his recent concussion, Anderson should be solid for your fantasy line up in week 1, but you can probably expect at least 1 interception. Check injury report: concussion

10. Brett Favre (NYJ)—He will begin a new chapter in his long and storied career as he takes the field in Miami on Sunday as a New York Jet. While Favre is sure to endure some bumps in the road in his first game in a new offense, he also has a very favorable match up and quality weapons in his arsenal. We like his chances in week 1 against what should be a weak Miami defense.

11. Matt Hasselbeck (SEA)—Despite the fact that Hasselback will be without his best compliment of weapons, he has a knack for turning seemingly bad situations into productive fantasy weeks. He will face what looks to be a much improved Buffalo defense, and while you probably should not expect a huge game, Hasselbeck should have solid week 1 production. Check injury report: back

12. Carson Palmer (CIN)—Historically, Palmer has never had great success against Baltimore. He hasn't played poorly against them, but from a fantasy standpoint, he has not been very productive in this match up. Palmer only has 4 TD's in his last 4 contests against them and did not throw a single TD in his last game vs. the Ravens. That said, this is a new year and he is plenty capable, but dont expect a monster effort from Palmer in week1.

13. Jeff Garcia (NO)—While he is very efficient, Garcia typically does not have much to offer as a fantasy QB. This week at New Orleans may be no different, but he does have a couple of things in his favor. Garcia typically plays very well indoors, and arguably his best game of last season came against the Saints, throwing for 243 yards, 2 TD's, and 0 interceptions(143.8 QB rating).

14. Aaron Rodgers (GB)—It seems as though practically everyone has already written Rodgers off as a fantasy bust. While he has not done much to prove his worth to this point, Rodgers has done nothing that would indicate that he will be a failure. He will face a scary Vikings defense in week 1, but they did give up a league worst 264 yards passing per game last season. Minnesota's D is a monster against the run, and with Jared Allen bringing the heat off of the end, they should be more effective against the pass, but we are not sold on them in that area yet. There is no question that Rodgers is a risky week 1 fantasy QB, but we think he could surprise his critics with a better than expected performance.

15. Jason Campbell (WAS)—In his lone start against the Giants last season, Campbell only managed 190 yards passing with 1 TD and no interceptions, not exactly spectacular. That said, the Giants defense typically starts slow, and they will be without star pass rushers Michael Strahan and Osi Umenyiora. Campbell is not your best fantasy option in week 1 by a long shot, but he should exceed expectations.

16. Phillip Rivers (SD)—The match up against a suspect Carolina defense at home bodes well for him in week 1, but you never know what you will get with this inconsistent signal caller.

17. Matt Schaub (HOU)—Schaub has a big arm and big potential, but—The Steel curtain—has a tradition of excellence in shutting down opposing passing games. Schaub will be hard pressed to overcome a fierce Steelers pass rush and a difficult environment in Pittsburgh.

18. Eli Manning (NYG)—He does have two things in his favor heading into Thursday night's match up against the Skins, 1. He is playing at home and 2. Washington's first team defense looked horrible in the preseason. Unfortunately and more importantly, Manning struggled badly in both games he played against the Redskins last season.

19. David Garrard (JAX)—In spite of an otherwise stellar '07 campaign, there is one defense that seems to have Garrard's number, the Tennessee Titans. In his last 2 contests against them, Garrard has thrown 3 interceptions and has been sacked 7 times. Garrard has plenty of upside for fantasy owners this season, but week 1 at Tennessee may not be the best week to have him in your starting line up.

20. Marc Bulger (STL)—A healthy Marc Bulger with a healthy offensive line is capable of going off any given week, but a week 1 match up at Philadelphia is not a safe one for fantasy owners.

Great fantasy QB, Wrong week
Jay Cutler (DEN)—While Cutler has proven to be a worthy starting fantasy QB, his week 1 match up against Oakland has bust written all over it. In 2 games against Oakland last season, Cutler only managed 1 TD pass while throwing 4 interceptions. The scary part is that the Raiders pass defense should be even better in '08. In addition, he will be without his best WR in Brandon Marshall due to a 1 game suspension. Cutler has the ability to overcome his biggest nemesis, but it doesnt look promising.

Jake Delhomme (CAR)—Delhomme will probably crack the starting line up for the majority of fantasy owners throughout the season, but week 1 should not be one of them. Not only will he be without his go to WR Steve Smith this week, Delhomme will have to overcome arguably the league's best secondary in front of a hostile crowd in San Diego.

Potential Sleeper for Week 1
J.T. O'sullivan (SF)—He is making his first start in the NFL's regular season. That alone is reason enough to steer clear of him on your fantasy roster, but we like his potential in this match up. This game has a recent history of turning into a shootout. You combine that with an already pass happy Mike Martz offense and an Arizona defense that is susceptible to giving up big plays in the passing game, and O'sullivan could raise more than a few eyebrows this week. He also has the luxury of playing at home.

Fantasy Football Week 3 QB Rankings

4. Aaron Rodgers (GB) – As expected, Rodgers torched the Lions in week 2 for 328 yards, 3 TD’s, and no interceptions. Week 3 should prove to be Rodgers biggest test of the young season when he faces the Cowboys at home. Rodgers completed 18 of 26 passes for 201 yards, 1 TD and no interceptions in mop up duty for the injured Brett Favre last season against Dallas. He also added 30 rushing yards, and looked solid in his only significant action of the ’07 season. While the Cowboys defense seems like a scary match up for the first year starter, we think Rodgers will continue his stellar play. The Cowboys pass defense has been more bark than bite so far this season, and Donovan McNabb made them look flat out bad at times on Monday night.

5. Drew Brees (NO) – The absence of go to WR Marques Colston clearly had an effect on Brees in week 2, but his performance was not as bad as it looks on paper. The 2 interceptions he threw came off of tipped balls, and he still managed 216 yards and a TD against a Redskins pass defense that looks to be better than expected. He will face Denver in week 3, and while the Broncos offense is ripping it up, their pass defense has been miserable. The Denver D has allowed an average of 267 yards passing in their first 2 games (Oakland and San Diego). They have also allowed 5 passing TD’s (tied for 2nd most in the NFL behind St. Louis with 6). In addition they have only managed 1 interception. We expect this game to turn into an air show and both QB’s should benefit. Brees is still a must start.

6. Kurt Warner (ARI) – He was near flawless in week 2 against Miami, completing 19 of 24 passes for 361 yards, 4 TD’s, and 0 interceptions. It will be tougher for him against an improved Redskins pass defense in week 3, but Warner tends to be streaky, and you have to stick with him while he is hot. Warner threw for 282 yards, 2 TD’s and 2 interceptions against Washington last season. Don’t expect a repeat of last week, but Warner should come through with another strong effort.

7. Eli Manning (NYG) – He continued his impressive play in week 2 with a 3 TD performance, even if it was against the Rams, who appear to have the worst defense in the NFL. If he can continue to show the same kind of consistency that led him to a Super Bowl victory last season, Manning will provide fantasy owners with great results, but the jury is still out until he is truly tested. Manning will face the Bengals in week 3, and while the Cincinnati pass defense looks great on paper to this point, their impressive numbers came against Baltimore rookie Joe Flacco and Titans back up Kerry Collins in 60 mile per hour winds. Manning should easily expose the Bengals pass defense for what they really are, bad.

8. Ben Roethlisberger (PIT) – He only threw for 186 yards and 1 TD in week 2, but when you take into account the ridiculous weather conditions and his sore shoulder, those numbers are actually pretty good. He will continue to battle through what is believed to be a sprained shoulder when Pittsburgh travels to Philadelphia in week 3, but Roethlisberger didn’t seem to be limited by the shoulder to any large degree against the Browns. He has looked very good to this point, and should have success against an Eagles pass defense that got torched by Dallas on Monday night. Check injury report: shoulder (full practice on Thursday)

9. Phillip Rivers (SD) – We have never thought much of Rivers as a fantasy QB, but it is hard to argue with his production so far this season. He has thrown for close to 600 yards and 6 TD’s in his first 2 games, while only throwing 1 interception. It is too early in the season to say that this guy has transcended into the fantasy elite, but so far so good. Rivers has a nice week 3 match up against the Jets. The Jets have been fairly solid in defending the pass thus far, but they have not exactly faced an offense of this caliber. Expect Rivers to tone it down a bit this week, but he should still produce on a more than acceptable level. You just have to hope that he doesn’t fall back into his old ways.

10. Donovan McNabb (PHI) – He has looked like the McNabb of old in his first 2 games, ducking and diving out of tackles, and making big plays. McNabb put up strong fantasy numbers for the second straight week, and they would have been even better if not for the already infamous DeSean Jackson debacle. McNabb will be tested against a very stout Pittsburgh pass defense in week 3, but he looks to be on track, and he finally has a weapon other than Brian Westbrook to work with.

11. Brett Favre (NYJ) – He followed up a solid week 1 performance with a sub par week 2, and after Kurt Warner torched the Miami defense in week 2, Favre’s week 1 totals against Miami seem less impressive. Favre still has the tools and the weapons to be a very effective fantasy QB as a Jet, but this offense is still new to him, and it will take some time. We like his chances to get the ball rolling in week 3 against a Charger pass defense that has allowed close to 600 yards passing and 5 TD’s in their first 2 games. The San Diego defense is probably better than their stats might indicate, but Favre is capable of exposing them again. As a Packer, Favre threw for 369 yards, 3 TD’s and no interceptions against San Diego last season.

12. J.T. O’Sullivan (SF) – O’Sullivan has had mixed results in his first 2 NFL starts, but last week’s performance on the road was promising. He threw for 321 yards, ran for 32 yards, threw a TD pass, and had 0 interceptions against a tough Seattle defense, in arguably the most difficult stadium to play in as a visiting signal caller. We still don’t have much to go on when evaluating his fantasy value, but last week’s effort bodes well. O’Sullivan’s week 3 could be even better as he will face a very suspect Detroit secondary. He may prove to be one of the more productive fantasy QB’s this week.

13. Matt Cassel (NE) – While Cassel was less than impressive against the Jets in week 2, you must keep in mind that it was his first start since high school, and the game plan was very conservative. The good news is that he was not awful, and he managed the game pretty well. We expect Head Coach Bill Belichick will open up the passing game more in week 2, and Cassel could be in for a nice fantasy day against a horrible Miami pass defense. The Dolphins have been torched in each of their first 2 games, and if Cassel gets comfy, it could be 3. Cassel is miles away from putting up Tom Brady type numbers, but this match up bodes well, and could give him the confidence to become a solid week to week fantasy option. We shall see.

14. Jake Delhomme (CAR) – In spite of a poor week 2 fantasy outing against the Bears, Delhomme is not a bad week 3 starting option. He has 2 very important factors in his favor. For one, the return of his stud go to WR Steve Smith from suspension could make all the difference in the world for him, and second, the match up against a mediocre Vikings pass defense should prove to be easier to navigate against than that of the Bears. Delhomme must show drastic improvement in week 3 to be considered as a solid week to week starting fantasy QB, but with a full compliment of weapons at his disposal, and an emerging Panthers running game to help him out; the future appears bright.

15. Matt Hasselbeck (SEA) – Hasselbeck has not been himself in the first 2 weeks, but considering his WR’s continue to drop like flies, it is difficult to expect much from him. The good news is that Seattle signed WR Koren Robinson and traded for Denver WR Keary Colbert this week. It is not a huge upgrade, but it should help. Besides, Hasselbeck is playing the Rams this week, and as bad as the St. Louis defense has played thus far, he could probably throw the ball to himself and have a 200 yard plus game with a couple of TD’s . The Rams have allowed an NFL worst 655 passing yards and 6 TD’s in their first 2 games, and they have yet to intercept a single pass. Hasselbeck is still risky under the circumstances, but this match up might be too promising to pass up.

16. Jon Kitna (DET) – In week 2, he looked like the typical Jon Kitna that fantasy owners have grown accustomed to over the last few seasons. He strolled into the 4th quarter with what looked to be a nice fantasy stat line, but as the pressure mounted, Kitna choked once again by throwing 3 critical interceptions. While he still has decent value as a fantasy QB, you can always expect him to ruin an otherwise great game by throwing the ball to the wrong team. He has a so so week 3 match up against San Francisco, but Kitna is not an optimal starting option.

17. Matt Schaub (HOU) – Schaub still has top flight fantasy QB potential, but he must step up to be considered as such. He showed flashes of how great he can be in week 1 against the Steelers, but he also had some rough patches in that game, and continues to make poor decisions under pressure. He will likely see plenty of pressure in week 3 against the Titans. Schaub started both games against Tennessee last season, and while we would love to share his stats from those games, there just isn’t enough there to be of any help, as he was knocked out (literally) early by the Titans defense in both contests. The odds are probably in his favor to finish this one out, but it is never a lock with the fragile signal caller. If he does in fact make it through the full game, Schaub is capable of decent numbers, but he is a risky start against a very good defense.

18. Derek Anderson (CLE) – Even with difficult match ups, crazy weather conditions (week 2), and Braylon Edwards dropping half of the passes thrown to him, Anderson has to be considered a fantasy disappointment so far this season. Unfortunately, week 3 at Baltimore doesn’t hold a great deal of promise either. On a positive note, Anderson wasn’t bad in 2 games against the Ravens last season, throwing for over 200 yards in both games and accounting for 3 total TD’s (1 rushing). We expect Anderson to rebound nicely when the match ups ease up and he gets his full compliment of weapons back (Stallworth and Jurevivicius), but until then, you might want to keep him reserved.

19. David Garrard (JAX) – He has yet to conjure up the magic that made him one of the top, up and coming fantasy QB’s heading into this season. In his first 2 games, Garrard has already equaled the number of interceptions he threw all of last season (3). He will face Indianapolis in week 3. Garrard was solid in his only full game against the Colts last season (24-29, 257 yds., 2 TD’s and 1 int.), but he was a much different QB at that time. With an injury plagued offensive line, Garrard will have a tough time finding the end zone against a Colts defense that has yet to allow a passing TD this season. There is till hope for him, but he will have to produce this week for you to strongly consider him as your starting fantasy QB.

20. Jason Campbell (WAS) – After a bland week 1 performance that brought about questions in his ability to run Washington’s newly installed west coast offense, Campbell answered his critics with a solid week 2, throwing for 321 yards and a score. Despite the rebound, we still view Campbell as a shaky week to week fantasy starter. He had some great performances last season as well, but typically followed them up with bad ones. One of those poor performances last season came against week 3 opponent Arizona in which Campbell only threw for 95 yards and an interception. He should be much better in this year’s contest against the Cardinals, but do not expect him to light it up by any means. As a side note, Arizona’s defense has yet to allow a passing TD in their first 2 games this season.

WEEK 15 QB RANKINGS

1. Tom Brady (NE) – There is not a better fantasy QB out there. Start him and hope the weather cooperates!
2. Drew Brees (NO) – He has thrown 8 TD’s and only 1 interception in his last 3 games. Brees is on fire once again, and a struggling 24th ranked Arizona pass defense that has allowed 21 passing TD’s this season will not be able to contain him. Brees is a must start.
3. Tony Romo (DAL) – In week 9 at Philadelphia, Romo completed 20 of 25 passes for 324 yards, 3 TD’s and 1 interception. He could surpass those numbers against the Eagles at home in week 15.Romo is a no brainer for your starting line up.
4. Peyton Manning (IND) – In his last 3 games, Manning has thrown 11 TD passes and only 2 interceptions. He is looking at a tough match up on the road this week against Oakland’s 5th ranked pass defense, but he is back on track, and should supply fantasy owners with a great effort. You can not afford to have him off your starting roster.
5. Brett Favre (GB) – After a solid week 14 performance, Favre appears to have no ill effects from his injured elbow and shoulder. He could be in line for a huge week15 against a mediocre Rams pass defense.
6. Kurt Warner (ARI) – He throws far too many interceptions, but he usually makes up for it with stellar yardage and TD totals. Warner should excel this week against the Saints 29th ranked pass defense. New Orleans has allowed 23 passing TD’s this season, only 3 other teams have allowed more. Only 5 teams have fewer interceptions than the Saints. Warner is a must start this week.
7. Derek Anderson (CLE) – He has been a pleasant surprise all season, but he has been exceptionably good at home. In week 15, Anderson will face the 28th ranked pass defense of the Buffalo Bills. He should be able to continue his successful run at home without difficulty.
8. Matt Hasselbeck (SEA) – He absolutely toasted the Arizona secondary last week throwing for 272 yards and 4 TD’s. This week he will face Carolina’s 12th ranked pass defense. While that ranking is fairly solid, the Panthers were torched by the Jags last week, and have allowed 10 TD passes in their last 5 games. Hasselbeck should stay hot in week 15.
9. Jeff Garcia (TB) – He should be back in the starting line up this week, and this should prove to be a great week for him to be there. Garcia does not typically put up monster numbers, but this week could be different. He faces an Atlanta pass defense that ranks 20th with a bullet pointing downward. The Falcons have been torched through the air in their last 3 games, and they are a team in disarray after losing head coach Bobby Petrino earlier this week. We like Garcia’s chances for a big game.
10. Marc Bulger (STL) – He has been cleared to play, and will start for the Rams in week 15. He has had a roller coaster season with more dips than climbs, but he has been solid at home which is where he will be this week. Bulger will face a solid but vulnerable Green Bay pass defense. They give up a lot of big plays in the passing game, but they also have a fierce pass rush that breeds sacks and turnovers. Bulger is a risky, yet capable week 15 starting option.
11. Ben Roethlisberger (PIT) – Roethlisberger has seen his fantasy stat lines go from great to mediocre in recent weeks, but most of that can be attributed to either bad weather or poor match ups. This week he will face the Jaguars 27th ranked pass defense, but that ranking is somewhat deceiving. This will be a tough game, and the weather is not expected to be favorable. Roethlisberger should bounce back with moderate success in week 15. He is not exactly a safe start, but you could do much worse. (Check injury report: shoulder)
12. Carson Palmer (CIN) – For whatever reason, Palmer has been horrible in recent weeks. In his last 2 games, he has thrown for a combined 372 yards (186 ypg), no TD’s and 2 interceptions. Palmer is a very talented QB, and typically, a very reliable fantasy option, but until he proves otherwise; he should be considered a risky start, even against a very average 49er pass defense. Hopefully he can turn it around in week 15.
13. David Garrard (JAC) – He continues to produce solid, efficient, and consistent numbers on a weekly basis. Typically, Garrard is a great fantasy starting option, but this week, he can only be considered decent at best. He will face the Steelers top ranked defense on the road, and the weather report is calling for cold and snow, not exactly optimal conditions for a warm weather QB. He has shocked and surprised all season, but the circumstances surrounding this week’s game could prove to be too much for him to overcome.
14. Trent Edwards (BUF) – While he had a modest completion and yardage total last week, Edwards did throw 4 TD passes. He appears to be the QB of the future for the Bills, and has a ton of upside as far as fantasy is concerned. Edwards is a risky start given his rookie status, and the fact that he will be on the road, but he is playing great, and a match up against Cleveland bodes well for him. He could be a nice sneaky start for week 15.
15. Phillip Rivers (SD) – You never know what you are going to get with Rivers, but he does have a great match up working in his favor. He will face the Lions 31st ranked pass defense. Detroit has allowed 26 passing TD’s on the season. Only the Browns have allowed more. Rivers is erratic, and a liability against any opponent, but he has a good shot at success this week. (Check injury report: knee)
16. Jon Kitna (DET) – This week he will face the Chargers 13th ranked pass defense. San Diego leads the NFL with 22 interceptions, and no QB is more prone to interceptions than Kitna. On the positive side, San Diego will be without top defender Shawne Merriman this week which should ease the burden a bit. Kitna is too much of a wild card to consider as a reliable start this week, but he should prove to be decent.
17. Donovan McNabb (PHI) – He is obviously capable, and a match up against Dallas’ 19th ranked pass defense looks promising on paper, but it will be a tough week for McNabb. The Cowboys have only allowed 1 passing TD in their last 3 games; they have one of the best pass rushes in the league, and rank 4th in the NFL with 18 interceptions. Do not expect anything more than an average performance from McNabb in week 15.
18. Eli Manning (NYG) – He looked better last week, but he is still not where he needs to be. He will face a vulnerable Redskins pass defense this week, but he has never had much in the way of success against them. Manning makes for a very shaky start in week 15.
19. Vince Young (TEN) –He continues to disappoint, and has now thrown 16 interceptions to only 7 TD’s this season. He faces a Kansas City defense that ranks 9th against the pass, but the Chiefs are pretty beat up, and have struggled in recent weeks. We like V.Y.’s chances for a rebound this week, but he is still far too risky, especially if you are trying to make a playoff run. Keep him on the bench unless you a really desperate.
20. Tarvaris Jackson (MIN) – We have trashed Jackson all season, but maybe we jumped the gun on this guy. We reluctantly have to take back some of the horrible comments we have made about him throughout the season. We still say he sucks as a fantasy QB, but he does win games, and is starting to show some positive consistency. Jackson has a good match up against the Bears in week 15, but he is not putting up the kind of numbers that translate well in fantasy.
21. Todd Collins (WAS)
22. Kyle Orton (CHI)
23. Kyle Boller (BAL)
24. Chris Redman (ATL)
25. Vinny Testaverde (CAR)
26. Kellen Clemens (NYJ)
27. Brodie Croyle (KC)
28. Cleo Lemon (MIA)
29. Josh McCown (OAK)
30. Shaun Hill (SF)

WEEK 14 QB RANKINGS

* Rex Grossman and Jason Campbell are not included in this week’s QB rankings. Thursday Night game participants are listed separately each Wednesday.

1. Tony Romo (DAL) – Not even Tom Brady has been as hot as Tony Romo lately, and a dream match up against a struggling 31st ranked Detroit pass defense does not hurt. Romo should be the man this week.
2. Tom Brady (NE) – He is mortal after all. While Brady has still been very impressive in recent weeks, he has seen a decline in his lofty passing numbers. A match up against the NFL’s best pass defense this week does not help matters this week. Brady will still be great, but do not expect him to return to monster status against the Steelers.
3. Peyton Manning (IND) – Manning appears to be solidly back on track after his midseason skid. In his last 2 games, he has thrown for 560 yards and 7 TD’s. In week 14, he will face a Baltimore secondary that now has all their players back and healthy, so this pass defense is better than their ranking of 15th would indicate. Manning will have his work cut out for him, but he is still a must start, and should put together a great game.
4. Carson Palmer (CIN) – There is no question that Palmer has been hit or miss lately, and more miss than hit, but this week offers an opportunity to be a big hit. He will face a struggling Rams pass defense, and a rebound of huge magnitude is likely in order. You should start him with confidence.
5. Derek Anderson (CLE) – After a horrible beginning to last week’s game against Arizona, Anderson finished strong, and produced another solid effort overall. This week he will face a much improved Jets pass defense. While the Jets secondary has played well lately, they are still susceptible to giving up big plays, and that is Anderson’s specialty. You should see another strong effort, start him.
6. Drew Brees (NO) – Brees was not spectacular last week, but he was very efficient. He will have the chance to return to spectacular in week 14 against the Falcons. Although Atlanta ranks 13th against the pass, Brees almost always lights them up. In his last 2 games against them, he has thrown for 568 yards, 4 TD’s, and only 1 interception. Do not hesitate to put him in your starting line up.
7. Matt Hasselbeck (SEA) – He continues to play well, and a week 14 match up against a beat up Cardinals secondary bodes well for him. Hasselbeck should be a gem for your starting fantasy line up this week.
8. Ben Roethlisberger (PIT) – He has cooled down considerably in recent weeks, but a lot of his down slide can be attributed to bad weather. Unless he has to deal with a monsoon or blizzard this week in New England, Big Ben should bounce back. What looked to be a nightmare match up a few weeks ago against the Patriots has now converted into a favorable one. In their last 2 games, the New England secondary has been torched by the likes of A.J. Feeley and Kyle Boller. If two second rate QB’s can shred them, Roethlisberger should be able to have a field day, right? While a solid game looks to be in the cards for him, the New England defense is more than capable of rebounding this week as well.
9. Brett Favre (GB) – He had to leave last week’s game against the Cowboys early with elbow and shoulder injuries. It may have been for the best as Favre was off to a horrible start anyway, and was showing no indication of improving. While he is still listed as questionable for this week, he did practice with the 1st team on Thursday, and will likely play. Favre has proven that he is capable of a monster game against any opponent, but given the injuries, and the fact that Oakland has a very good pass defense; you should lower your expectations of him this week. (Check injury report: right elbow/left shoulder)
10. David Garrard (JAC) – Since returning from injury, Garrard’s play can only be described as excellent. In his last 3 starts, he has thrown for 742 yards, 5 TD’s, and only 1 interception. He has been the most efficient QB in the NFL this season when healthy, throwing 11 TD passes and 1 interception. Garrard is a must start this week against Carolina. He probably won’t get you huge stats, but he is almost certain to produce very good numbers.
11. Marc Bulger (STL) – He should be back this week after sitting out week 13 with a concussion. Bulger should be in for a nice day as he has a favorable match up against the Bengals 26th ranked pass defense. Despite the great match up, Bulger has been hit or miss in recent weeks, and could be a little risky, but we like his chances. (Check injury report: concussion)
12. Kurt Warner (ARI) – In his last 4 games Warner has thrown for 1,123 yards, 9 TD’s, and 4 interceptions, pretty solid numbers for any gun slinger. This week he will face a pretty average Seattle pass defense, but he may have to do it without top WR’s Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin. Boldin is definitely out, and Fitzgerald is questionable with a groin injury. Despite the issues with his favorite targets, Warner should prove to be worth the start.
13. Jeff Garcia (TB) – If his sore back is up to the challenge, Garcia should play this week against Houston. If he can go, the match up against the Texans 16th ranked pass defense would be in his favor, and while you should not expect lofty numbers, Garcia should come through with a decent game. Be sure to monitor his status before starting him. (Check injury report: back)
14. Jon Kitna (DET) – Kitna has not exactly been great lately, and a match up against the Cowboys defense seems like a nightmare, but not so fast. While Kitna will likely see his fair share of sacks and interceptions as usual this week, there are some promising spots in this match up as well. For one, the Dallas secondary has been vulnerable against pass heavy offenses, and rank 18th in passing yards allowed. In addition, Kitna absolutely lit the Cowboys up last season, throwing for 306 yards, 4 TD’s and only 1 pick. The Cowboys defense has improved in a year’s time, but the personnel is pretty much the same. Start him at your own risk, but he could be worth the gamble.
15. Chris Redman (ATL) – He will get his first start of the season this week filling in place of Joey Harrington. Redman looked solid last week in relief of Harrington, and with a match up as appealing as the Saints 28th ranked pass defense, he could be worth a shot this week. Redman has not really done enough to prove himself as a worthy fantasy option, but the Saints were torched by a 3rd stringer last week, so why not this week?
16. Vince Young (TEN) – You can never be sure what you will get when you start V.Y., and that has never been truer than against San Diego this week. The Chargers defense has been a bit of a mystery in their own right this season. While San Diego ranks a poor 22nd against the pass, they do lead the NFL in interceptions and rank near the top in sacks. He has the tools to put together a great performance, but do not count on it.
17. Jay Cutler (DEN) – While Cutler is capable of a solid game against Kansas City this week, he remains a risk for your starting roster. He is coming off a horrible week 13, and was not exactly spectacular against the Chiefs in week 10.
18. Donovan McNabb (PHI) – He will almost certainly start this week against the Giants after missing the last two games with injuries. The question is, why would he want to? In a week 4 meeting against the Giants, McNabb was sacked a ridiculous 12 times. If the Eagles can game plan to give McNabb adequate protection this time around, he has the talent to be effective, but we would not count on it. He is a very risky start for week 14. (Check injury report: ankle/thumb)
19. Phillip Rivers (SD) – Mr. inconsistent will face the Titans 8th ranked pass defense this week. While Rivers has shown the potential for a solid game, he is way too unreliable.
20. Eli Manning (NYG) – We all know what he is capable of, but I could have put up better numbers than him over the last 2 games. Manning remains a liability for your starting fantasy roster until he can prove otherwise.
21. Kellen Clemens (NYJ)
22. Trent Dilfer (SF)
23. Tarvaris Jackson (MIN)
24. Sage Rosenfels (HOU)
25. Josh McCown (OAK)
26. Vinny Testaverde (CAR)
27. Kyle Boller (BAL)
28. Brodie Croyle (KC) – (check injury report: back)
29. Trent Edwards (BUF)
30. John Beck (MIA)

WEEK 12 QB RANKINGS

1. Tom Brady (NE) – Do we really even need to write anything at this point? Start him!
2. Matt Hasselbeck (SEA) – If you like quality and consistency in a fantasy QB, then you have to love Matt Hasselbeck. Since the Seahawk offense has converted to a pass heavy attack, he has been one of the league’s better fantasy options at the QB position. He matches up against division rival St. Louis in week 12, a match up that bodes very well for him. Expect another strong effort and have him in your starting line up on Sunday.
3. Derek Anderson (CLE) – He is coming off of his worst fantasy effort of the season since taking over the starting job, and it still was not bad. Anderson has a favorable match up in week 12 against a very average Texans pass defense. The tempo of this game should be one that favors Anderson’s style, and we expect a very big fantasy effort from him. He is a must start.
4. Carson Palmer (CIN) – He has thrown for a ton of yards in recent weeks, but unfortunately, he has also thrown a ton of interceptions. In his attempt to keep the high octane Bengals passing attack afloat, he may be trying too hard, forcing throws, and hence the interceptions. With the addition of Chris Henry, he has plenty of weapons in his arsenal, but his O-Line is pretty banged up, and he has little time to make decisions. Palmer should have a big game against Tennessee this week, but he must cut down on the picks.
5. Matt Schaub (HOU) – With Andre Johnson back in the fold for Houston, Schaub is a very dangerous QB. Last week against New Orleans, he threw for 293 yards, 2 TD’s, and no interceptions. Schaub is typically efficient, but if the match up is right, he can be a monster. The match up against the Browns is right. Cleveland’s secondary is horrible, and with the likelihood that this game will be a shoot out, he stands to post big numbers. Start him with confidence.
6. Drew Brees (NO) – After he appeared to have this offense on a steady pace back to the top, Brees has had mixed results in his last 2 contests. He faces Carolina this week which ranks a respectable 12th against the pass. In an earlier meeting against them, Brees completed 29 passes for 252 yards, but he also threw 2 interceptions and no TD’s. Based on the mixed results he has produced lately, it is difficult to anticipate what he will do this week. He has proven that he has what it takes to have a monster game against anyone, but he has also shown a lack of consistency. Whatever the case, he has too much potential to consider benching.
7. Marc Bulger (STL) – He is definitely a risky choice as your starting QB this week, but even though the match ups were soft, and he was sacked often, Bulger posted decent numbers. More importantly, he has not been making mistakes under pressure. He faces a Seahawk pass defense that ranks 20th in week 12. If the make shift Rams offensive line can keep him safe, Bulger should have a quality fantasy outing.
8. Eli Manning (NYG) – As expected, he had a solid week 11, throwing for 283 yards, 1 TD, and no interceptions. Manning will have an even better match up this week against the worst pass defense in the NFL. If he can continue to limit mistakes this week, he should have another great game against Minnesota.
9. Ben Roethlisberger (PIT) – After posting elite fantasy numbers for several weeks, Roethlisberger was well below par in week 11 against the Jets. This week he has the Dolphins, who at first glance seem like a cup cake that he will roll over, but not so fast. While the Dolphins are a definite cupcake against the run, they have been excellent against the pass. They rank 4th in the NFL and have not allowed any QB to throw for more than 157 yards against them since week 7. They have also held opposing QB’s below 50% in completions, and have allowed only 1 TD compared to 4 interceptions in that span. Roethlisberger is more than capable, but the numbers do not lie. Keep expectations low this week, especially if Santonio Holmes on the sidelines with injury.
10. Kurt Warner (ARI) – He has looked great in the last 2 weeks, but he hasn’t exactly played the stiffest of competition (Cincinnati and Detroit). He should be able to do some damage again this week, but the 49ers pass defense ranks 9th, and they will probably not be dominated by Warner in week 12.
11. Jeff Garcia (TB) – He rarely puts up monster numbers, but he is consistently good. He has thrown 3 TD’s and no interceptions in his last 2 games, and only has 3 interceptions on the season. He should have another nice effort against the Redskins 23rd ranked pass defense.
12. David Garrard (JAC) – When healthy, he has been a rock solid fantasy QB. He won’t overwhelm you any week, but he gets the job done, and accumulates very respectable fantasy stats on a consistent basis. He has a nice match up against Buffalo’s 29th ranked pass defense.
13. Jay Cutler (DEN) – He is coming off of an impressive week 11 performance. Cutler is not the most reliable fantasy QB, but we like his chances again this week against a very shaky Bears pass defense. Cutler will also have Javon Walker back on the field, which can only add to his fantasy value.
14. Vince Young (TEN) – He had his best fantasy outing of the’07 campaign in week 11. Young is starting to show some potential as a passer, and not just as a running threat. He is still a risky option, as he lacks accuracy in his passes and makes too many mistakes under pressure when he can’t escape the pocket. He has a promising match up against the Bengals this week, but can he be consistently productive in the passing game? He hasn’t proven it yet.
15. Donovan McNabb (PHI) – UPDATE: McNabb is out with injuries. A.J. Feeley will start. On top of getting knocked out of last week’s game against Miami, McNabb was flat out horrible. If he is healthy enough to make the start this week, he could be in store for another tough game. The Patriots defense has not proven to be soft on QB’s, and while McNabb has the talent to produce a decent game, it will not come easy. It may be a good week to leave him off of your starting roster. (Check injury report: ankle and thumb)
16. Jason Campbell (WAS) – He has been outstanding in his last 2 games, but the Washington gunslinger has run hot and cold all season. He is on a hot streak, but Campbell is not a reliable starting option this week against Tampa’s 3rd ranked pass defense.
17. Phillip Rivers (SD) – He has been all over the map this season as far as his fantasy output is concerned. He had a fair week 11, but he was terrible the previous 2 weeks before that. He faces Baltimore this week, which would typically be considered a very difficult match up, but with the Ravens secondary limited to mostly second stringers; it may not be as tough as advertised. Never the less, Rivers is too unpredictable to start with any reasonable amount of confidence.
18. Kyle Boller (BAL) – Boller has the ability to make plays, but he does not have the supporting cast, and makes too many mistakes to be a very effective fantasy QB, even against San Diego’s 25th ranked pass defense.
19. Vinny Testaverde (CAR) – He could very well be a sleeper this week against a ridiculously bad Saints secondary, but he has not done enough this season to prove that he has the ability to produce a monster game against anyone. Testaverde could change our opinion this week, but we wouldn’t bet the farm on it.
20. Rex Grossman (CHI) – While he has not been flashy since returning to the starting role, Grossman has been efficient, but efficient does not account for much in fantasy football. Consider him an emergency fill in at best against Denver.
21. J.P. Losman (BUF) – Losman has done little that would make us recommend him as a starting fantasy QB. Jacksonville ranks 27th against the pass, but they play better than that ranking, and Losman is not capable of producing huge numbers against any defense.
22. Daunte Culpepper (OAK) – He looked pretty good last week, but then again, most QB’s do against the Vikings. He will face a very respectable Chiefs secondary this week, and is not recommended for use unless you are extremely desperate.
23. Brodie Croyle (KC) – He was not half bad in his first start last week for the Chiefs. While he was very efficient and mistake free, especially for a first start, Croyle posted below average fantasy production. He could be in for a rude awakening this week against a very good Raiders pass defense. Even if he plays efficiently again this week, Croyle has very little fantasy value.
24. Trent Dilfer (SF) – He is not worth dropping a back up kicker for in this offense. Do not start him against anyone.
25. Tarvaris Jackson (MIN) – They should start a petition in Minnesota to get rid of this guy. He does not belong in the NFL, and he should not be on your fantasy team. If you have gotten desperate enough to pick him up, your fantasy season is probably already over.
26. John Beck (MIA) – He may have a decent future ahead of him as a fantasy QB, but as for now, he can’t help you.

* Players that participated in Thursday games are not represented in this week’s QB rankings.
