Fantasy Football Running Back Start/Sit Rankings (Week 1)

1. Adrian Peterson (MIN) – A week 1 match up against Cleveland should prove to be a cake walk for Peterson. The Browns ranked 28th in run defense in 2008 and do not appear to be much improved. We fully expect Peterson to carry the rock early and often en route to a big week 1 fantasy effort.

2. Maurice Jones-Drew
(JAC) – He is battling a shin injury, but all indications are that he will be good to go in week 1. In 2 games against the Colts last season Jones-Drew totaled 162 and 166 yards respectively. He also had a TD in the first meeting and managed to find pay dirt twice against them in 2007 in a back up role. The Colts have not been known for their run defense in recent years, especially when it comes to Jones-Drew and they head into week 1 pretty banged up as well. He should have his usual field day against Indy.

3. LaDainian Tomlinson
(SD) – It is probably fair to say that he has owned the Raiders throughout his career. Even in a down year with a turf toe injury, Tomlinson managed to total 206 yards and 3 TD’s against them in 2 games last season. In fact, he has found pay dirt against Oakland at least once the last 6 times he has faced them. This game should speak volumes about Tomlinson’s fantasy value for the rest of the season and we really like his chances for a big week 1.

Fantasy Football Wide Receiver Start/Sit Rankings (Week 1)

Here they are—rankings for Week 1 to help you decide who to start and who to sit on your fantasy football team.

1. Randy Moss (NE) – The Brady to Moss air show returns to Foxboro on Monday night and this deadly combo should not miss a beat against a good, but not great, Buffalo pass defense. The last time Moss faced the Bills with Brady under center, he managed to accumulate an absurd 15 catches for 243 yards and 6 TD’s in 2 games. You probably shouldn’t expect a repeat of the 2007 meetings. Regardless, Moss should have a big impact on your week 1 fantasy total at the end of the day.

2. Larry Fitzgerald (ARI) – Do you even need a reason? It’s Larry Fitzgerald against the 49ers, start him.

3. Andre Johnson (HOU) – The Jets made it a priority in the off season to upgrade a pass defense that ranked 29th out of 32 teams last season, and yet, they are still no match for the great Andre Johnson. He is a must start fantasy option each and every week.

4. Calvin Johnson (DET) – If it were almost any other receiver in the NFL, we would have cause for concern heading into week 1 with a rookie QB against what should be a much improved New Orleans defense, but Calvin Johnson is not just any receiver. We would probably suggest starting him if he had to throw the ball to himself. He’s just that good and it doesn’t hurt that Johnson and Stafford looked to be on the same page in preseason.

5. Greg Jennings (GB) – He was able to find pay dirt in each of the 2 games in which he faced the Bears in 2008. It also doesn’t hurt that literally the entire Bears secondary is coming off of some kind of injury and this will be the first game that they will all play together as a unit. There are bound to be some blown coverages in this match up and there probably isn’t a better QB – WR tandem in the NFL at exploiting blown coverages than Aaron Rodgers and Greg Jennings.

6. Roddy White (ATL) – White will probably be matched up against veteran CB Will Allen for the majority of this game, but starting at the other CB position will be rookie Sean Smith. We are fairly confident that the Falcons will find a way to match White up against the rookie at least a few times which could yield big results. Regardless of who Miami decides to play against White, be it Will Allen, the rookie, double teams with FS Gibril Wilson, it doesn’t matter; the Dolphins secondary is no match for White.

7. Reggie Wayne (IND) – In his last 5 games against the Jaguars, Wayne has had no fewer than 74 receiving yards while averaging an impressive 116 yards per game during that span. By the numbers, it’s quite obvious that Jacksonville’s lock down CB Rashean Mathis has no clue how to stop Reggie Wayne in this match up and we seriously doubt Mathis will have an answer for him in week 1.

8. Marques Colston (NO) – Our only real concern here is that the Saints will build such a lead that they will abandon the passing game early, but then again, who are we kidding; it’s New Orleans. Colston should own a weak Lions secondary and is a must start fantasy option. As a side note, he had 7 catches for 104 yards against Detroit in week 15 last season.

9. T.J. Houshmandzadeh (SEA) – He actually has a QB that can get him into the end zone again. The Hasselbeck-Houshmandzadeh combination should be one to watch this season and it doesn’t get much better than a week 1 match up against the Rams. We expect Housh to return to elite fantasy form and actually be relevant outside of just PPR leagues this season.

10. Steve Smith (CAR) – There is no question that the Eagles will provide Smith with one of his toughest match ups of the season, but Smith is one of the few receivers in the NFL that is virtually match up proof. Smith will certainly have his work cut out for him, but ultimately, Delhomme always find a way to get the ball in the hands of #89.

11. Wes Welker (NE) – He is battling some kind of knee injury, but as usual the Patriots are very tight lipped on the details. The good news is that he did practice on Thursday, all be it on a limited basis. That said, we are fairly confident that Welker will play on Monday night and probably without limitation. We hope so, because the match up is pretty good and he should benefit greatly from the return of Tom Brady. Welker is especially useful in PPR fantasy leagues. Needless to say, be sure to monitor his status, that is if New England bothers to update it. Check injury report: knee (probable)

12. Chad OchoCinco (CIN) – No one stands to benefit more from the return of QB Carson Palmer than #85, especially with T.J. Houshmandzadeh off to Seattle. We have high hopes for the player formerly known as Chad Johnson and we should find out if the dynamic duo still has what it takes in week 1 against a soft Denver pass defense that ranked as one of the worst in the NFL a season ago. Ocho will likely be covered by all pro CB Champ Bailey which could cause some problems, but we still like his chances. Heck, he may even get you a field goal or two.

13. Vincent Jackson (SD) – It took him long enough, but Jackson finally lived up to expectations in 2008 becoming one of the premier deep threats in the NFL. A week 1 meeting with the Raiders may not be as seamless as you would think as Jackson will likely be matched up against shut down corner Nnamdi Asomugha. The good news is that Asomugha will be playing with a casted broken wrist and Jackson managed to get the better of him last season to the tune of 148 yards and a TD in week 14.

14. Anquan Boldin (ARI) – While his hamstring injury has us fairly concerned about his availability for Sunday, we also know that if anyone can play hurt and play well, it’s Anquan Boldin. Given his track record against the Niners, including a 2 TD performance against them last season, it would be a shame if he has to miss this game. Even in a limited role he is probably worth starting, but be sure to monitor the situation closely as Boldin is likely to be a game time decision.UPDATE: It seems less and less likely that Boldin will play in week 1 with a strained hamstring. He's expected to be a game time decision, but we wouldn't bet on him playing. Check injury report: hamstring (game time decision)

15. Terrell Owens (BUF) – At this point, there are more questions than answers regarding Owens fantasy value heading into week 1, but we do know that he is a top flight receiver in terms of talent and Trent Edwards will do everything under the sun to get him the football. It also doesn’t hurt that Owens will be facing a Patriots pass defense that gave up the second most receiving TD’s (27) in the NFL last season.

16. Eddie Royal (DEN) – With Brandon Marshall’s role for week 1 still very much up in the air, no one stands to benefit more than Eddie Royal. Even if Marshall starts and sees extensive action, Royal should be the go to guy in the Denver passing game. He has already developed a solid rapport with QB Kyle Orton in the preseason and Marshall should help draw the attention of the Bengals defense away from Royal. It could work out to benefit both players.

17. Braylon Edwards (CLE) – Hopefully, Edwards has gotten all the butter off of his hands from last season and can return to elite form. Time will tell, but we do know one thing for sure, Brady Quinn is going to have to get the ball to Edwards if the Browns want to have anything that resembles a successful passing game this season. The week 1 match up is not ideal, but if the Vikings have a weakness on defense; it’s pass coverage.

18. DeSean Jackson (PHI) – He has made claims that he will double his production from a season ago. Let’s see, that would give him 124 receptions for 1,824 yards and 4 TD’s. We will give him the 4 TD’s and then some, but 124 catches for 1,800 plus, c’mon man! He must have skipped a lot of math classes while at Cal. More to the point, we do like his week 1 match up against a mediocre Carolina defense and Jackson is sure to be McNabb’s go to target. By Jackson’s own assessment, he figures to have 22 catches for 234 yards and 3 TD’s. We kid.

19. Lance Moore (NO) – While it’s true that the Saints are overcrowded with playmakers and someone will have to be the odd man out, we seriously doubt that man is going to be Moore as many have suggested. He is definitely one of Drew Brees’ favorite targets and we see no reason why that will change. Even when Marques Colston returned from injury last year, Moore continued to put up top flight fantasy numbers. There may be weeks when Moore suffers from the “too many fish in the pond” syndrome, but we doubt any of the Saints WR’s will be immune to that at some point or another during the season. He didn’t have the best stat line against Detroit last season, but this match up is too good to pass up.

20. Derrick Mason (BAL) – He remains one of the more underrated fantasy prospects in the NFL especially in PPR leagues. As Joe Flacco’s go to guy in the Ravens passing game, we fully expect Mason to have one of his better games of the season right off the bat. A week one match up against what should be a poor Kansas City pass defense holds promise galore for the crafty veteran wide out. Mason is a pretty good bet for solid production in all formats this week, not just PPR fantasy leagues.

21. Donald Driver (GB) – He doesn’t have the best track record against Chicago, but we really like his consistency against them. While Driver will probably never return to elite form, he should give you solid production most weeks and we like his chances in week 1. Literally the entire Bears secondary is coming off of some kind of injury and this will be the first game that they will all play together as a unit. This bodes well for all Packer receivers.

22. Roy Williams (DAL) – He will be tested in week1 against a very good Tampa Bay secondary and we should find out if Williams is finally ready to step into the role vacated by Terrell Owens. It wasn’t long ago that Williams was considered one of the premier WR’s in the NFL, so we know he has what it takes to be successful. In spite of an otherwise lackluster performance, Williams did manage to score his only TD as a Cowboy against the Buccaneers last season.

23. Hines Ward (PIT) – In spite of a late 4th quarter fumble that almost cost the Steelers the game, Ward had an otherwise solid performance Thursday night against the Titans with 8 receptions for 103 yards.

24. Dwayne Bowe (KC) – We would like him a whole lot more with a healthy Matt Cassel under center, but that probably isn’t going to be the case and the match up against the Ravens is not all that favorable to begin with.

25. Anthony Gonzalez (IND) – He’s not in the same class as a young Marvin Harrison, but just filling Harrison’s role in a pass happy offense should give his fantasy value a nice boost this season. We aren’t as high on his fantasy potential as others, as Gonzalez has had ample opportunity to prove himself, with not so flattering results. That said, the potential is there and we are giving him the benefit of the doubt. While Gonzalez has not had much success against Jacksonville to this point in his short career, he should see a dramatic increase in targets as the Colts #2 WR and that alone helps his chances for a solid week1.

26. Antonio Bryant (TB) – He finally had his long anticipated breakout year in 2008 and in spite of poor circumstances in Tampa, we remain optimistic that Bryant can maintain his fantasy value to some degree. It won’t be easy against a very solid Dallas pass defense in week 1, but other than Kellen Winslow, Bryant is all the Bucs have in the passing game. At the very least, he should be targeted often. Hope for the best, Bryant is talented enough to find success even in a not so great situation. Check injury report: knee (probable)

27. Santana Moss (WAS) – He is a very hit or miss fantasy option and a week 1 match up against the Giants isn’t exactly ideal, but other than himself and Chris Cooley, the Skins have no viable options in the passing game. Moss should be targeted often in this match up and he is talented enough to make an impact.

28. Santonio Holmes (PIT) – After hauling in 9 passes for 131 yards and a TD on Thursday night against a very good Titans pass defense, Holmes is starting to build a strong case that he is finally ready to transcend into fantasy’s elite.

29. Torry Holt (JAC) – While the title of “Big Game” Torry Holt probably isn’t as fitting as it once was, a week 1 match up against the Colts will present Holt with a favorable opportunity to regain his nickname. The Colts will be without a couple of key starters in the secondary including super stud safety Bob Sanders. The Indianapolis pass defense was one of the best in the NFL last season, but under the circumstances they are vulnerable in week 1. In addition, Holt has excelled playing indoors and on turf throughout his career, Lucas Oil stadium provides both. We will see if Holt can take advantage of a fresh start as a Jaguar.

30. Bernard Berrian (MIN) – We liked him much more this week before we noticed that he was very limited in practice. Berrian can be a big time playmaker in the Vikings offense this season with Brett Favre under center, but a tweaked hamstring is not going to help the deep threat’s cause in week 1. If he gets to play, Berrian is probably still worth a look as a WR3, but be sure to monitor his health closely as Sunday approaches. Check injury report: hamstring (game time decision)

31. Laveranues Coles (CIN) – He was basically invisible in the preseason, but that may have been by design and could play in his favor heading into a promising week 1 match up against Denver. With shut down CB Champ Bailey likely to be matched up against Chad Ochocinco, Coles could benefit greatly.

32. Donnie Avery (STL) – He could be a very pleasant surprise against a Seattle defense that ranked dead last in the NFL a year ago in passing yards allowed. The Seahawks will also be without their best cover corner in Marcus Trufant which bodes well. That said, Seattle will key in on Avery in the passing game and he is coming off of a broken toe. In addition, Rams QB Marc Bulger will be playing with a broken pinkie.

33. Jerricho Cotchery (NYJ) – This ranking is probably a bit on the generous side on our part considering the circumstances, but he is Mark Sanchez’s best option in the passing game and the match up against a mediocre Texans secondary is favorable. Cotchery is much more valuable in PPR fantasy leagues than he is in standard leagues, so keep that in mind when setting your line up.

34. Josh Morgan (SF) – He has real sleeper potential and a week 1 match up against an Arizona defense that gave up a league worst 36 receiving TD’s last season is extremely favorable. If he is going to live up to the hype, this is the week for him to do it.

35. Brandon Marshall (DEN) – He is talented enough to do some damage in week 1 against Cincinnati, but Marshall’s role in the Denver game plan is completely undefined. He is fairly risky at this point.

36. Lee Evans (BUF) – He has the ability to make an impact in week 1 against a vulnerable Patriots secondary, but QB Trent Edwards is probably going to heavily favor T.O. in this one.

37. Domenik Hixon (NYG) – Everyone is selling him short and we like his chances to answer the critics in week 1, that is if the Giants give him the chance.

38. Devin Hester (CHI) – He has the tools and a QB to produce at a big time level, but the week 1 match up does not bode well.

39. Ted Ginn (MIA) – Week 1 will grant him the opportunity to prove his worth against a young and inexperienced Falcon secondary. We will like him more when he finally shows some consistency.

40. Percy Harvin (MIN) – The talented rookie could benefit greatly if Bernard Berrian is less than 100%, regardless, Harvin’s versatility in the running, return and passing games should give him an opportunity to make an impact in week 1.

41. Chris Henry (CIN) – He has big play potential against a weak Denver pass defense, but Henry is not the safest bet as Carson Palmer’s third option in the passing game. Check injury report: thigh (probable)

42. Steve Breaston (ARI) – He would benefit tremendously if Anquan Boldin is unable to play and a decent WR3 play regardless. Check injury report: knee (probable)

43. Michael Jenkins (ATL) – He has sleeper potential matched up against Miami rookie CB Sean Smith in week 1, but hardly a guy you can count on.

44. Steve Smith (NYG) – Probably best suited for PPR leagues, Smith is a shaky WR3 play at best.

45. Chris Chambers (SD) – A hit or miss fantasy prospect, Chambers could benefit in week 1 flying under the radar.

46. Nate Burleson (SEA) – He probably isn’t going to have the fantasy impact of year’s past in the Seahawks new offense, but the match up is favorable for week1 and Burleson has been known to surprise.

47. Justin Gage (TEN) – He definitely exceeded expectations Thursday night pulling in 7 passes for 78 yards and a TD against arguably the best pass defense in the NFL. Gage isn’t the most consistent receiver, but he’s definitely worth grabbing if he’s still up for grabs in your league.

48. Isaac Bruce (SF) – The match up against Arizona holds promise for the crafty veteran, but Bruce is more miss than hit.

49. Troy Williamson (JAC) – A starter in week 1 coming off of a big preseason, Williamson has developed a solid rapport with QB David Garrard as a deep threat. He has sleeper value for week 1, but there are safer options available.

50. Muhsin Muhammad (CAR) – A possession receiver with red zone potential, but the match up is less than favorable.

Fantasy Football Week 1 WR Rankings

1. Terrell Owens (DAL) – This match up against Cleveland has all the makings of becoming the Romo to T.O. show that became commonplace last season. Anything less than a monster game for Owens would be a big disappointment for fantasy owners.

2. Randy Moss (NE) – The Kansas City secondary will have their hands full trying to keep up with Moss. Expectations should be high for him in week 1.

3. Larry Fitzgerald (ARI) - In his last game against San Francisco, Fitzgerald absolutely humiliated this defense by hauling in 9 passes for 156 yards and 2 TD’s. The 49ers defense should be better this season, so he will be hard pressed for a repeat performance, but Fitzgerald has the talent to do it again.

4. Reggie Wayne (IND) – For obvious reasons, Wayne is a lock for your week 1 fantasy roster against the Bears.

5. Braylon Edwards (CLE) – If the game against Dallas turns into a shootout or the Browns have to play from behind, Edwards will be called upon often. Regardless, he should get plenty of looks as Derek Anderson’s go to guy. Check injury report: foot

Fantasy Football Week 1 Running Back Rankings

1. LaDainian Tomlinson (SD) – He will face what should be a weak Carolina run defense at home. Tomlinson is a lock for your week 1 fantasy roster.

2. Brian Westbrook (PHI) – He should shred a soft Rams defense on the ground and in the passing game. Westbrook could be in for a monster week 1.

3. Frank Gore (SF) – In his last game against Arizona, Gore rushed for 116 yards and 2 TD’s while adding 11 receptions for 98 yards, by far his best fantasy performance of ’07. In addition, he has 7 TD’s in his last 4 match ups against the Cards. Gore should be the centerpiece of the new Mike Martz offense, and week1 should be a big one for him.

4. Adrian Peterson (MIN) – He will have his work cut out for him on the road against a solid Green Bay defense. While Peterson could not manage to find pay dirt against the Packers in either game against them last season, he did average a hefty 6.8 yards per carry.

5. Joseph Addai (IND) – While a healthier Chicago run defense looks to improve on a dismal ’07 campaign, their first team D continued to get gashed in the preseason. They will have a monster challenge in week 1 in the form of Joseph Addai on Sunday night at the new Lucas Oil Stadium. We like Addai’s chances for a strong showing. He is a no brainer for your fantasy roster.

Fantasy Football Week 1 QB Rankings

1. Tom Brady (NE)—In spite of missing the entire preseason, Brady should have little trouble shredding a young Kansas City defense. Unless there is a setback with his alleged injured foot (unlikely), Brady is a no brainer for a week 1 fantasy start. Check injury report: foot

2. Tony Romo (DAL)—The Cleveland defense should be improved in '08, but they are no match for Romo. This game could turn into a shootout and Romo has the potential to put up big fantasy numbers in this one.

3. Kurt Warner (ARI)—Warner threw for a staggering 484 yards and 2 TD's against San Francisco last season. He is unlikely to duplicate such lofty numbers on the road, but Warner should have a big game, and is a must start for your fantasy roster.

4. Peyton Manning (IND)—Most QB's would probably struggle after missing all of preseason and losing their best offensive lineman (C Jeff Saturday), but Peyton Manning is not your average QB. Manning does most of his practicing in the film room anyway, and his arm should be just fine. He will be prepared to give the Bears more than they can handle when the Colts take the field at brand new Lucas Oil Stadium. Check injury report: knee

5. Ben Roethlisberger (PIT)—He is coming off of an impressive '07 fantasy football campaign and Big Ben has never had so many quality weapons at his disposal. The Houston defense looks to be much improved, but their biggest weakness will probably be in the secondary. Roethlisberger should pick them apart.

NFL Kickoff Tidbits and Trivia

The NFL's Kickoff Weekend begins Thursday, Sept. 4, in primetime on NBC when the Super Bowl champion New York Giants host the Washington Redskins. It’s when things start to count. Thank goodness!

So while we get to work preparing our Week 1 rankings, we thought we'd put together some interesting tidbits and trivia regarding teams and how they fare in Week 1.

• The Super Bowl champion New York Giants, who host Washington in the spotlight Kickoff 2008 game on Thursday night, have 46 wins in openers, the third-most in NFL history. The Giants have a 46-32-5 (.590) record on Kickoff Weekend. New York is tied for third in league annals with 45 wins in home openers and the team’s 46 wins in road openers rank second all- time. The Giants visit St. Louis in Week 2 to face the Rams.

• The New England Patriots have won 11 of their past 13 home openers, including a perfect 6-0 record at Gillette Stadium. The Patriots open the season at home versus Kansas City and aim for their seventh consecutive win in a home opener.

The Dallas Cowboys own a 32-15-1 (.681) record in openers, the top mark in the NFC. The Cowboys open the season in Cleveland and Dallas has the NFL’s best record in road openers at 30-18 (.625).

• The Indianapolis Colts, who will kick off the season by opening up Lucas Oil Stadium against Chicago on Sunday night, have won eight of their past nine openers and five consecutive home openers. The Colts travel to Minnesota in Week 2 and have won three road openers in a row, the longest current such streak in the NFL.

• The Chicago Bears open the season at Indianapolis in primetime and seek to become the first team to record 50 victories on Kickoff Weekend. The Bears return home to Soldier Field in Week 3 to face Tampa Bay and have 60 wins in home openers, the most in the league.

• The Green Bay Packers have 48 wins on Kickoff Weekend, the second-most in NFL history. The Packers host the Minnesota Vikings on Monday night to start the season. In Week 2, Green Bay travels to Detroit and the Packers have 49 wins in road openers, the most in NFL history.

• The Jacksonville Jaguars, who open the season at Tennessee, are 9-4 (.692) all-time on Kickoff Weekend, the best mark in the NFL.

• The Denver Broncos, who open at Oakland on Monday night, have won 14 of their past 19 openers and are 30-17-1 (.638) on Kickoff Weekend. The Broncos host San Diego in Week 2 and have won eight consecutive home openers, the longest current streak in the NFL. Denver is 35-12-1 (.745) in home openers, the second-best mark in the league.

• The Miami Dolphins, who host the New York Jets on Kickoff Weekend, are 31-10-1 (.756) in home openers, the best mark in the NFL. Miami has won 12 of their past 16 openers.

• The Pittsburgh Steelers have won 37 openers, the most among AFC teams, and have won five consecutive openers, the longest current streak in the NFL.

• The Oakland Raiders, who open the season at home against Denver on Monday night, are 34-13-1 (.719) in home openers. The Raiders have won seven of their past 10 openers at home.

• The San Francisco 49ers, who open the season at home against Arizona, have won 12 of their past 15 home openers, outscoring opponents 434-281 in those games.

• The Arizona Cardinals open the season at San Francisco, the 19th time in the past 21 years the club has started the year on the road. The New York Jets travel to Miami on Kickoff Weekend, marking the 36th time in the team’s 49-year history the club has opened on the road.

6. Roddy White (ATL) – White should have a field day at home against what will probably be the NFL’s worst secondary this year in the Detroit Lions. Matt Ryan should be able to get him the ball all day long. White is a must start for week 1.

7. Andre Johnson (HOU) – He will face a stingy Pittsburgh pass defense in week 1, but this guy can make big plays against anyone. So long as he is healthy, Johnson is a must start any week against any opponent.

8. T.J. Houshmandzadeh (CIN) – He should be close to 100% healthy when the Bengals take the field in Baltimore for week 1. Historically, Houshmandzadeh has played well in this rivalry match up, and barring any setbacks with his hamstring, this week should be no different.

9. Santonio Holmes (PIT) – He is finally stepping into the ranks of the big boys in terms of fantasy WR’s. Holmes will have every chance to prove his worth against what should be a shaky Houston secondary at home.

10. Calvin Johnson (DET) – He still has a lot to prove and a week 1 match up against arguably the worst defense in the NFL should help propel him to fantasy greatness in week 1. Johnson should have a big game in Atlanta.

11. Greg Jennings (GB) – Jennings will likely be targeted early and often in week 1 against a Minnesota defense whose only weakness is against the pass. We like his chances for a huge week 1.

12. Torry Holt (STL) – Holt is the only reliable WR in a pass happy offense. As usual, expect him to see plenty of passes coming his way, but the match up is tough.

13. Joey Galloway (TB) – Most guys could make a nice season out of what Galloway has done in his last 4 games against the Saints. In those 4 games, Galloway has accumulated 501 receiving yards and 5 TD’s. He has never failed to produce big time stats against New Orleans in 4 seasons as a Buc. The only thing that could prevent him from doing it again is a groin injury. Check injury report: groin

14. Wes Welker (NE) – He should continue his role as Tom Brady’s safety net, a role that propelled him into the fantasy spotlight last season. Welker, as usual, should have ample opportunity against a young Chiefs defense in week 1.

15. Anquan Boldin (ARI) – Boldin has not been off the charts in any of his last 4 games against division rival San Francisco, but he has played well in all of them. Expect more of the same or better against them in week 1.

16. Roy Williams (DET) – After a disappointing ’07, Williams has a lot of making up to do with regard to fantasy owners. He will have his chance in week 1 against a soft Falcons pass defense. If QB John Kitna chooses Williams as his go to guy this week, fantasy owners will be glad they gambled on Williams in their draft, at least for a week.

17. Plaxico Burress (NYG) – He has been hit or miss in his last 4 games against the Redskins. The odds are in his favor a nice game against them at home on Thursday.

18. Marques Colston (NO) – For whatever reason, Colston has struggled at home against the Bucs, while he has lit them up when playing in Tampa over the last 2 seasons. It makes no sense, but you would have to be crazy to not have Colston on your starting fantasy roster for week 1 at home.

19. Nate Burleson (SEA) – After the Seahawk WR corps turned into a MASH unit in the preseason, Burleson is the last man standing in the pass happy offense. He should be targeted early and often in Seattle’s week 1 match up at Buffalo.

20. Chad “Ocho Cinco” Johnson (CIN) – He will play in week1 against the Ravens, and in spite of his craziness and bum shoulder, whatever his name is should produce solid fantasy numbers. Check injury report: shoulder

21. Jerricho Cotchery (NYJ) – He appears to be Brett Favre’s most likely go to target for week 1 and for that reason alone, we have him ranked higher than Coles. Both guys should have nice games considering the match up against Miami, but there are still some questions to be answered with Favre at the helm.

22. Hines Ward (PIT) – He isn’t getting any younger, but Ward can still get it done. He should get plenty of looks at home against Houston. He makes for a good WR2, WR3, or flex on your fantasy roster depending on your options.

23. Laveranues Coles (NYJ) – Coles could become Favre’s version of Donald Driver this season in New York. Let’s just hope he has more TD’s than Driver had last season. Coles should be in for a solid week against a soft Miami defense barring any setbacks from a thigh injury. Check injury report: thigh

24. Marvin Harrison (IND) – He could be a little risky in his first game back, but we think that Manning will make it a point to get him the ball often in week 1. The rest is up to Harrison. Those of you who drafted him should find out if the gamble is going to pay off on Sunday night.

25. Donald Driver (GB) – He should be able to get off to a quick start in a promising week 1 match up against the Vikings. If Driver can show that he remembers where the end zone is with Aaron Rodgers at QB, his fantasy stock will sky rocket.

26. Dwayne Bowe (KC) – Bowe will have his work cut out for him at New England in week 1, but he should be able to outmatch the Patriots new look secondary. Barring an early sophomore slump, we like his chances on Sunday as the Chiefs will almost certainly be throwing the ball a lot in the second half.

27. Chris Chambers (SD) – He should be able to make some noise against what is expected to be a mediocre Carolina pass defense in week 1. Chambers is not your safest option, but the match up holds promise.

28. Patrick Crayton (DAL) – He is never a lock for producing big fantasy numbers, but the match up against Cleveland is right, and Crayton has the tools to do it.

29. Lee Evans (BUF) – After a very inconsistent ’07 season, Evans has plenty to prove in week 1. The match up is not ideal against Seattle, but Evans can show up against any opponent, any week, and produce big numbers. Unfortunately, he can also go bust just as quick. He is worth a look on your fantasy roster as a WR3 or flex.

30. Santana Moss (WAS) – Moss’ best days as a fantasy wide out are behind him, but he still has the tools to do some damage any given week. Don’t expect lofty stats in week 1 against the Giants, but he should be solid.

31. DeSean Jackson (PHI) – We realize that Jackson is a rookie and yes, he is a risky week 1 start for your fantasy roster, but we like his chances and here is why. The Rams typically play a very aggressive man to man coverage scheme and they also like to blitz. If St. Louis chooses this style of defense on Sunday, Jackson will be left one on one against either an outmatched nickel back or a much slower linebacker. With his speed, he should be open all day long and has the potential for a monster week 1.

32. Muhsin Muhammad (CAR) – He has the potential to be week 1’s biggest sleeper. When you take into account that he will almost certainly be Delhomme’s go to guy this week with Steve Smith suspended, it only makes sense that Muhammad at least has a chance for a big week. Muhammad has been off the fantasy radar for a while now, but that is mostly due to the lack of a quality QB in Chicago. Now that he is back in Carolina with Delhomme, the magic they had before could be rekindled, and it could be in week 1 against San Diego. The match up against the Chargers star CB Antonio Cromartie will be a tough one.

33. Derrick Mason (BAL) – He continues to get overlooked in fantasy football in spite of producing solid week to week numbers on a consistent basis. No matter whom the QB is and how bad he may be, you can at least count on one thing, he will be throwing the ball to Mason often. Mason has a promising week 1 match up against the Bengals at home and is not a bad pick as your WR3.

34. Isaac Bruce (SF) – Bruce may not be a bad week 1 fantasy option. The week 1 match up against Arizona will probably be a shootout, and Bruce is probably going to be the go to WR. All of the 49ers WR’s have a chance to produce solid fantasy numbers with Mike Martz as offensive coordinator, unfortunately, it is too early to gauge which one will benefit most. Bruce is the safest bet for now.

35. Courtney Taylor (SEA) – Taylor could be a nice sleeper if you are short on quality WR’s. He is unproven, but the fact that he is a starting WR in a pass heavy offense makes him enticing for week 1.

36. Eddie Royal (DEN) – With Brandon Marshall suspended in week 1, this talented rookie will be asked to step up and fill in the hole. Cutler has to throw to someone this week, right? It will probably be Royal.

37. Ted Ginn (MIA) – In his sophomore season, Ginn will be asked to step up big if the Dolphins are to have success. We will find out if he is up to the challenge in week1 against the Jets. He is a risky, but highly capable week 1 fantasy option. Ginn will also be beneficial in leagues that account for return yardage.

38. Donte’ Stallworth (CLE) – There are two likely scenarios for Stallworth in week 1 against Dallas. He will either come up big or go bust. Either way, you will find out early whether you wasted a draft pick on him. We like his chances and feel like his talents were wasted in New England. Cleveland probably won’t make the same mistake.

39. Ronald Curry (OAK) – If Javon Walker is unable to play on Monday night, Curry will instantly become the go to WR for Oakland by default. Even if Walker does play, there is a decent chance that Curry still plays that role. Regardless, Curry is always good for a few fantasy points, but typically not much more.

40. Reggie Brown (PHI) – Brown has never been a fantasy juggernaut, but his week 1 match up at home against the Rams could produce quality numbers.

41. Kevin Walter (HOU) – He is not a great fantasy option in week 1 against Pittsburgh, but Walter is an underrated and fairly consistent WR capable of putting up solid numbers any week.

42. Bryant Johnson (SF) – Johnson missed the preseason with a hamstring injury, but he should be able to step right in against the Cards in week 1. He is risky for your fantasy roster this week, but we like him for the long haul.

43. Vincent Jackson (SD) – This may be his last chance to prove valuable to fantasy owners. He has all the attributes of a great fantasy WR; he has just failed to produce to this point. Jackson will have every opportunity to do just that on Sunday against a soft Carolina secondary.

44. Bernard Berrian (MIN) – He is a capable and talented fantasy WR, but Berrian continues to handicap himself by playing for teams with bad QB’s. This is a new team and a new year, but Berrian only caught 3 balls for a total of 27 yards against Green Bay in 2 games as a Bear last season.

45. Reggie Williams (JAX) – He is a deep threat and a favorite red zone target for QB David Garrard. He is a candidate to find the end zone any week. Williams is risky for week 1 with a hamstring injury. Check injury report: hamstring

46. Anthony Gonzalez (IND) – While Gonzalez is certainly in the right offense to become a fantasy stud, he has balked at every opportunity to do so (and he has had more than his fair share). He has the chance to do a little something in week 1 against the Bears, but for those of you who drafted Gonzalez early, expecting this guy to go off this season; we hate to tell you that you probably wasted a good pick on a mediocre fantasy talent. If you picked him up as a late round flier pick, you should get decent value.

47. Javon Walker (OAK) – Walker is a risky start for week 1 for a number of reasons, but he showed some promise in the last preseason game, and we are optimistic that he could still meet the expectations of fantasy owners, especially in week 1 against his former team. He has been nursing a slight pull in his hamstring this week as well, and may be questionable for Monday night’s game. Check injury report: hamstring

48. Justin Gage (TEN) - His best fantasy production as a Titan last season came at home against Jacksonville in week 10. Gage caught 7 passes for 90 yards and a TD in that contest. He will face a similar Jaguar defense on that same field on Sunday. Gage is risky, especially with Vince Young at QB, but he is capable.

49. Drew Bennett (STL) – If Bennett is truly healthy, he could be in for a nice game in Philadelphia on Sunday. The Rams will probably throw the ball a lot, and with star CB Asante Samuel probably matched up on fellow WR Torry Holt, Bennett could be targeted often.

50. Sidney Rice (MIN) – Rice’s best game of the ’07 season came against this same Packers defense. He had 6 receptions for 75 yards and a TD. Rice has a mountain of potential, but it often gets wasted with inconsistent and/or bad QB play.

Fantasy Football Week 1 RB Rankings

Fantasy Football Week 1 RB Rankings

6. Marion Barber (DAL) – The Browns run defense probably won’t be the pushover that they were a season ago, but Barber might make it look that way. Barber will be used early and often in this one and you should expect a strong outing.

7. Michael Turner (ATL) – He has looked like the real deal in preseason, and he couldn’t ask for a better match up than his week 1 contest against the Lions at home. Turner should bring smiles to fantasy owner’s faces on Sunday.

8. Steven Jackson (STL) – It will be a tall order for Jackson to run wild over the Eagles on the road, but there is never a match up too scary for this guy.

9. Clinton Portis (WAS) – In 2 contests against the Giants last season, Portis combined for 223 total yards while finding the end zone once in each match up. He will be on the road Thursday night, but Portis will be facing a Giants defense that should be softer than that of last seasons. He is a must start.

10. Marshawn Lynch (BUF) – This match up against an underrated Seahawks defense will not be a walk in the park, but he is a phenomenal talent, and should have a solid week 1 performance.

11. Thomas Jones (NYJ) – Jones is coming off of a lack luster season in which he only rushed for 1 TD all season, the good news is that the lone TD came in week 13 at Miami. While Jones should still be considered a slightly risky fantasy option, the addition of Brett Favre and a vast upgrade in the Jets offensive line should leave fantasy owners optimistic for ’08. Fantasy owners should be very optimistic in week 1 against what should be a lousy Dolphins defense; the one defense in which Jones performed well against in both games last season.

12. Brandon Jacobs (NYG) – Jacobs rushed for 130 yards and hauled in 3 passes for 30 yards against the Skins in his only game against them last season. If he can duplicate that and possibly add a TD, Jacobs will provide fantasy owners with a nice point total.

13. Kevin Smith (DET) – He may just be a rookie, but Smith has a sweet week 1 match up at Atlanta. He should be able to run all over this defense, and must be included in your fantasy roster as a low end RB1 or a high end RB2.

14. Earnest Graham (TB) – The one and only time that Graham went into the Super Dome to face the New Orleans defense was week 13 of last season, and he ran circles around them, rushing for 106 yards and a score. He also added 7 receptions for 37 yards. This match up bodes well for Graham and fantasy owners once again.

15. Laurence Maroney (NE) – If Belichick actually decides to utilize has vast talents this season, Maroney could be in for a big year. That big year could kick off in a nice home match up against a young Kansas City defense. Maroney has the tools to produce strong fantasy numbers this week, but Belichick will have to get him the ball, something he failed to do early last season.

16. Larry Johnson (KC) – He should be relied on heavily in the tough week 1 match up at New England. Johnson has the ability to gash even the best defenses, but don’t expect a huge game from him this week.

17. Selvin Young (DEN) – In 2 games against Oakland last season, Young rushed for 71 yards on just 10 carries (7.1 yards per carry). The Raiders run defense should be better in ‘08 and Young will have to get goal line touches to make a big splash, but this match up is still promising.

18. Jamal Lewis (CLE) – Lewis will have an uphill battle when he faces a strong Cowboys defense at home on Sunday. Lewis tends to play well in big games, but if the Browns get down early, he could become an afterthought in this offense. He still has big TD potential for week 1. Check injury report: hamstring

19. Maurice Jones-Drew (JAX) – While Jones – Drew has never played all that well against the Titans at home, for whatever reason, he has played extremely well against them in Nashville. The Titans have one of the best run D’s in all of football, but Jones – Drew should be able to tap into his versatility as a pass catcher and return man to produce solid fantasy numbers in week 1.

20. Ryan Grant (GB) – He was one of only a couple of guys to have success against the Vikings top ranked run defense in ‘07, rushing for 119 yards and a TD while adding 5 catches for 20 yards in his only start against them. Grant will be hard pressed to duplicate that against the Purple People Eaters at home this time around, but he is plenty capable. Check injury report: knee

21. Darren McFadden (OAK) – Hopefully, we will find out just how good this kid is when he takes the field against rival Denver on Monday night. The big question is, how much will head coach Lane Kiffin get him the ball in week 1? We think it should be enough to produce solid fantasy numbers against a suspect Broncos run defense.

22. Ricky Williams (MIA) – It seems likely that Williams will be the feature back for the Fins when they take on the Jets at home Sunday afternoon. The match up bodes well, but his success will rely heavily on how the carries are divvied up between himself and Ronnie Brown. If Williams gets the bulk, he could have a big game.

23. Willie Parker (PIT) – He is not much of a TD threat, but Parker could slice and dice the Texans defense for big yards on the ground and as a receiver out of the backfield. He is not an ideal fantasy RB for week 1, but he should start as a RB2 or utility in deep leagues.

24. Reggie Bush (NO) – In 2 seasons and 4 games of trying, Bush has never been able to muster more than 64 yards rushing against the Tampa Bay defense. He has, however, put up solid numbers in the receiving department against them. This is not one of his better match ups, but he should probably make your roster as a low end RB2 or utility, depending on your options.

25. Edgerrin James (ARI) – James has performed admirably against the 49ers in recent years, but he is a year older, and with Tim Hightower expected to snag the goal line carries, James has little chance of finding pay dirt. He should put up decent numbers otherwise.

26. Matt Forte (CHI) – Forte has a lot of potential and has been flying under the fantasy radar somewhat, especially for a guy who will be a feature back. We figure Cedric Benson’s lack of fantasy success has a lot to do with it, but this guy is much more talented. He will probably have some bumps in the road, most assuredly in week 1 at Indianapolis, but we like his upside. Keep expectations tame for week 1, but he should get the rock a bunch.

27. Willis McGahee (BAL) – On paper a match up against the Bengals defense should have fantasy owners licking their chops, but in reality, McGahee has never played that well against them, even against the ridiculously porous run defense Cincinnati had in ’07. You must also take into account that he will probably give up a lot of touches to rookie Ray Rice in week 1, as the Ravens will probably want to bring him along slowly after coming off of arthiscopic knee surgery. You may be best served waiting to see how McGahee plays this week before throwing him into your starting line up, but if you are short on talent in that area, you really have no choice. Check injury report: knee

28. Chris Perry (CIN) – He will be the feature back for the Bengals when they head to Baltimore to face an aging but capable Ravens run defense on Sunday. He has much to prove as a fantasy RB, but this will be a great stage for him to showcase his talents, that is if he can stay healthy long enough to finish the game. Perry is risky for week 1, but he could be a nice sleeper pick as a RB2 or utility.

29. Maurice Morris (SEA) – Morris is maybe the most overlooked fantasy RB in the league. He performed admirably in Shaun Alexander’s absence last season, and appears to have the starting job locked down over Julius Jones. The week1 match up against a much improved Buffalo defense will be difficult, but Morris is better than advertised.

30. Justin Fargas (OAK) – With all of the hype surrounding Darren McFadden, everyone has forgotten that Fargas is still the starter. He will probably be phased out slowly in this offense as the season progresses, but he should see plenty of carries in week 1. Fargas ran wild on the Denver defense in week 13 of last season rushing for 146 yards and a TD. You can’t expect him to repeat that with Mcfadden in the fold, but do not count him out.

31. Jonathan Stewart (CAR) – Stewart will begin his NFL career with a baptism by fire as he must face a stout Charger run defense in hostile San Diego. The match up does not bode well for him, but the same could be said for Adrian Peterson last season when he blistered this same defense. We like him for the long haul, but this match up is scary.

32. LenDale White (TEN) – While he is still the workhorse in this offense and a TD threat any given week, White has struggled badly against the Jaguars during his short career, especially at home. He is not a safe week 1 start.

33. DeAngelo Williams (CAR) – He has performed brilliantly during the preseason and will likely be the first Panther RB to hit the field against San Diego on Sunday. The Chargers defense will be difficult to crack on the road, and Jonathan Stewart may cut deep into his workload. Williams should not be one of your better fantasy options for week 1.

34. Ronnie Brown (MIA) – Brown torched the Jets last season to the tune of 211 total yards and 3 TD’s in 1 game. Unfortunately, that was Ronnie Brown at 100%, and he was not competing for playing time with Ricky Williams. If Brown sees plenty of action, he could put up some nice stats, but it seems too risky to start him in week 1, even with the promising match up. We suggest monitoring the RB situation in Miami before deciding Brown is your guy. He may end up just fine, but at this point there are just too many questions yet to be answered.

35. Fred Taylor (JAX) – He finished the second half of the ’07 season as one of the better fantasy RB’s in the league. If he can carry that momentum into ’08, Taylor could once again prove to be of great value to fantasy football rosters. He begins his ’08 campaign against a very stingy Tennessee run defense on the road. Taylor did not play especially well against the Titans in either match up from last season, and he will again give up a lot of touches to Maurice Jones-Drew. Taylor is capable, but the deck is stacked against him in week 1.

36. Ray Rice (BAL) – If the Ravens decide to bring starting RB Willis McGahee along slowly after knee surgery, Rice could be on the field more often than not in week 1. The match up is right for a big game, but the question is, how much will he play? Rice could be a sleeper in week 1 against the Bengals, but he is a very risky start.

37. Chris Johnson (TEN) – Johnson should see significant action in his first ever NFL game. He will be coming off the bench, but the speedy rookie has the ability to explode to pay dirt on any given play. He is not ideal for starting fantasy rosters in week 1, but we like his potential.

38. Julius Jones (SEA) – He will likely split carries with Maurice Morris, and Jones should see plenty of action in his first game as a Seahawk on Sunday. He has fallen behind expectations and has an uphill climb to prove worthy on fantasy rosters once again. There is potential, but it is looking more and more like the same story we saw unfold in Dallas. Jones is probably only good for a 40 or 50 yards this week.

39. Ahmad Bradshaw (NYG) – For the time being, Bradshaw seems to be in line to see some quality touches early in the season. He is an explosive and speedy RB capable of taking it to the house on any play. Unfortunately, those types of plays are few and far between, so while Bradshaw is probably good for a few yards in week 1, a TD will be hard to come by, but it is always a possibility with this guy.

40. Andre Hall (DEN) – You probably shouldn’t expect to see Hall on the field a lot in week 1 against the Raiders, but you should see him out there at the most significant time with regard to fantasy football. If practice and preseason hold true, Hall should get the all important goal line carries for the Broncos on Monday Night, but you never know with Mike Shanahan calling the shots. Hall is risky, but a TD is a real possibility.

Other notable RB’s for week 1 include:
Deuce McAllister (NO)
Rashard Mendenhall (PIT)
Tim Hightower (ARI)
Chester Taylor (MIN)
Ahman Green (HOU)
Jerious Norwood (ATL)
Steve Slaton (HOU)
Kenny Watson (CIN)
Felix Jones (DAL)
Warrick Dunn (TB)

6. Donovan McNabb (PHI)—He should have a field day at home against an unimproved Rams defense that allowed 226 yards passing per game and 25 TD's through the air last season. If the Rams play man to man, as they usually do, speedy rookie WR DeSean Jackson could propel McNabb to a monster game, but there are no guarantees with rookies.

7. John Kitna (DET)—With a new offense in place, the Lions are expected to lean more towards the run this season, but with a healthy Roy Williams and Calvin Johnson at his disposal, a match up against the Falcons is just too enticing for fantasy owners to pass up. The Atlanta defense ranked near the bottom in both passing yards allowed (228) and passing TD's allowed (27) last season, and that was with now departed star CB DeAngelo Hall (now with the Raiders).

8. Drew Brees (NO)—Brees will have his work cut out for him when he faces a very good and underrated Tampa Bay pass defense on Sunday in the Super Dome. He typically plays well against the Bucs, but has never put up spectacular fantasy numbers against them. A healthy Jeremy Shockey could be the edge he needs.

9. Derek Anderson (CLE)—Anderson will be facing a stout Cowboys defense at home, but he typically plays well in big games. If this game turns into a shootout as expected or the Browns get down early, Anderson will have to go to the air often. Barring any complications from his recent concussion, Anderson should be solid for your fantasy line up in week 1, but you can probably expect at least 1 interception. Check injury report: concussion

10. Brett Favre (NYJ)—He will begin a new chapter in his long and storied career as he takes the field in Miami on Sunday as a New York Jet. While Favre is sure to endure some bumps in the road in his first game in a new offense, he also has a very favorable match up and quality weapons in his arsenal. We like his chances in week 1 against what should be a weak Miami defense.

11. Matt Hasselbeck (SEA)—Despite the fact that Hasselback will be without his best compliment of weapons, he has a knack for turning seemingly bad situations into productive fantasy weeks. He will face what looks to be a much improved Buffalo defense, and while you probably should not expect a huge game, Hasselbeck should have solid week 1 production. Check injury report: back

12. Carson Palmer (CIN)—Historically, Palmer has never had great success against Baltimore. He hasn't played poorly against them, but from a fantasy standpoint, he has not been very productive in this match up. Palmer only has 4 TD's in his last 4 contests against them and did not throw a single TD in his last game vs. the Ravens. That said, this is a new year and he is plenty capable, but dont expect a monster effort from Palmer in week1.

13. Jeff Garcia (NO)—While he is very efficient, Garcia typically does not have much to offer as a fantasy QB. This week at New Orleans may be no different, but he does have a couple of things in his favor. Garcia typically plays very well indoors, and arguably his best game of last season came against the Saints, throwing for 243 yards, 2 TD's, and 0 interceptions(143.8 QB rating).

14. Aaron Rodgers (GB)—It seems as though practically everyone has already written Rodgers off as a fantasy bust. While he has not done much to prove his worth to this point, Rodgers has done nothing that would indicate that he will be a failure. He will face a scary Vikings defense in week 1, but they did give up a league worst 264 yards passing per game last season. Minnesota's D is a monster against the run, and with Jared Allen bringing the heat off of the end, they should be more effective against the pass, but we are not sold on them in that area yet. There is no question that Rodgers is a risky week 1 fantasy QB, but we think he could surprise his critics with a better than expected performance.

15. Jason Campbell (WAS)—In his lone start against the Giants last season, Campbell only managed 190 yards passing with 1 TD and no interceptions, not exactly spectacular. That said, the Giants defense typically starts slow, and they will be without star pass rushers Michael Strahan and Osi Umenyiora. Campbell is not your best fantasy option in week 1 by a long shot, but he should exceed expectations.

16. Phillip Rivers (SD)—The match up against a suspect Carolina defense at home bodes well for him in week 1, but you never know what you will get with this inconsistent signal caller.

17. Matt Schaub (HOU)—Schaub has a big arm and big potential, but—The Steel curtain—has a tradition of excellence in shutting down opposing passing games. Schaub will be hard pressed to overcome a fierce Steelers pass rush and a difficult environment in Pittsburgh.

18. Eli Manning (NYG)—He does have two things in his favor heading into Thursday night's match up against the Skins, 1. He is playing at home and 2. Washington's first team defense looked horrible in the preseason. Unfortunately and more importantly, Manning struggled badly in both games he played against the Redskins last season.

19. David Garrard (JAX)—In spite of an otherwise stellar '07 campaign, there is one defense that seems to have Garrard's number, the Tennessee Titans. In his last 2 contests against them, Garrard has thrown 3 interceptions and has been sacked 7 times. Garrard has plenty of upside for fantasy owners this season, but week 1 at Tennessee may not be the best week to have him in your starting line up.

20. Marc Bulger (STL)—A healthy Marc Bulger with a healthy offensive line is capable of going off any given week, but a week 1 match up at Philadelphia is not a safe one for fantasy owners.

Great fantasy QB, Wrong week
Jay Cutler (DEN)—While Cutler has proven to be a worthy starting fantasy QB, his week 1 match up against Oakland has bust written all over it. In 2 games against Oakland last season, Cutler only managed 1 TD pass while throwing 4 interceptions. The scary part is that the Raiders pass defense should be even better in '08. In addition, he will be without his best WR in Brandon Marshall due to a 1 game suspension. Cutler has the ability to overcome his biggest nemesis, but it doesnt look promising.

Jake Delhomme (CAR)—Delhomme will probably crack the starting line up for the majority of fantasy owners throughout the season, but week 1 should not be one of them. Not only will he be without his go to WR Steve Smith this week, Delhomme will have to overcome arguably the league's best secondary in front of a hostile crowd in San Diego.

Potential Sleeper for Week 1
J.T. O'sullivan (SF)—He is making his first start in the NFL's regular season. That alone is reason enough to steer clear of him on your fantasy roster, but we like his potential in this match up. This game has a recent history of turning into a shootout. You combine that with an already pass happy Mike Martz offense and an Arizona defense that is susceptible to giving up big plays in the passing game, and O'sullivan could raise more than a few eyebrows this week. He also has the luxury of playing at home.
